- 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pinin Farina
During the mid- to late 1950s, Ferrari was in a state of transition; increased racing costs meant that Ferrari needed to sell more roadgoing models to pay for its extensive racing program. Although such roadgoing models were certainly offered in the past, they were essentially built to order. Variations to suit the wishes of individual customers were common, keeping costs high and volumes low, rendering them unprofitable. Meanwhile, the 250 GT cabriolet, introduced at the Geneva International Auto Salon in 1957, was conceived as Ferrari’s semi-luxury touring car and was, thus, given better interior appointments and more soundproofing than the 250 California Spider. Its chassis and drivetrain may have been strikingly similar to Ferrari’s racing cars, but the high standard of fit and finish, as well as the car’s complete instrumentation, luxurious leather interior, and other passenger amenities, set it apart. The cabriolet was based upon the 250 GT coupe, which was also presented as a luxury touring machine, with its body produced by Pinin Farina. Unveiled to the public at the 1959 Paris Salon, the new series II cabriolet appeared one year after the handsome, updated 250 GT Pinin Farina coupe and replaced the low-production first series cabriolet. In fact, the second series remains notable as the first commercially successful, production-based convertible model ever offered by Ferrari. While the cabriolet appeared to be somewhat longer than the coupe, thanks to a stylish “kick-up” just behind the doors and the elegant rear fenders, the cabriolet and coupe shared nearly identical overall dimensions. Mechanically, both the 250 GT cabriolet and the coupe were considerably improved over the California, with the addition of the updated 3.0-liter, Colombo-derived V-12 engine designated Tipo 128 F. This engine, which produced 240 horsepower, was fitted with outside-plug cylinder heads and twin distributors, while an overdrive transmission was made available. The cars offered race-bred stopping power with a set of four-wheel disc brakes, while telescopic shock absorbers and handsome 16-inch Borrani wire wheels were included as standard equipment. The result was a stylish and very quick Ferrari, with acceleration to 60 mph achieved in less than seven seconds, en route to a top speed of 140 mph. These updates resonated with Ferrari’s clientele. Production lasted part way through 1962 and 200 examples were built, far outselling the initial series of 250 GT cabriolets. A UNIQUE 250 GT CABRIOLET The 84th example produced, chassis number 2115 GT was sold new by the factory in October 1960 to first owner Raymond Doumith, a resident of Baghdad in the Republic of Iraq. This 250 GT was the only example to leave the factory finished in the stunning one-off color combination of Blu Tornado (MM 12909) over Pelle Nera (VM 8500). The car was further optioned with an Abarth exhaust system, Borrani wire wheels, Pirelli Cinturato tires, Borletti instrumentation in kilometers, and a Baroclem battery. In 1969 the Ferrari was imported to the United States, where it was owned by a Sidney Colberg of San Francisco, California and later a Thomas E. Thompson of Camp Springs, Maryland. The 250 GT would eventually find its way to Canada under the ownership of architect and Toronto resident Jake Silberberg in the mid 1980s. In the late 1990s it was restored to its factory configuration. Chassis number 2115 GT was later sold by Modena Motorsport GmbH in Langenfeld (Düsseldorf), Germany to Ralf-Guido Kiwit of Meerbusch (Düsseldorf), Germany. The 250 GT participated in Ferrari Racing Days at the Nürburgring in September of 2002. In July 2005 Kiwit showed the Ferrari at the 11th Modena Motorsport Track Days at the Nürburgring. In July 2006, Kiwit drove the Ferrari in the Tour Inter Europa and showed the car at the Concours d’Elegance in the Rhineland-Palatinate part of Germany. Kiwit sold the 250 GT in 2013 through Modena Motorsport to a client in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. By the Fall of 2016, the chassis number 2115 GT was back in the United States. The most recent ownership, a respected Ferrari collector based in the UK, purchased the 250 GT in 2018; during their tenure the Ferrari has been sparingly driven. It achieved Ferrari Classiche Certification in 2021, confirming that it retained its matching-numbers engine, gearbox, and differential. Today chassis 2115 GT is finished in a lovely shade of blue metallic with a blue convertible top over a Pelle Beige interior. It is equipped with a driver sideview mirror and Marmitte ANSA exhaust, and rides on Avon tires mounted on Borrani knock-off wire wheels. The interior is nicely appointed, with the Pelle Beige complemented nicely by a wood-rimmed steering wheel and a color-matched dashboard with full suite of Veglia instrumentation, with speedometer in kilometers. The 3.0-liter Columbo V-12 is fueled by three Weber 40DCL6 carburetors. It is backed by a four-speed synchromesh gearbox sending power to a 7x32 differential. The Ferrari is offered with copies of factory build records, Ferrari Classiche Red Book, and Massini report. A true gentleman’s Ferrari, this 250 GT Cabriolet Series II, exhibiting a stunning Pinin Farina design and boasting Ferrari Classiche Certification, would be a wonderful cabriolet for the driving enthusiast looking to experience Ferrari performance and luxury at its finest level. 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pinin Farina RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint Coupé by Touring
In 1954, Alfa Romeo gave its popular 1900 platform a sporty twist, creating the Super Sprint Coupé. Carrozzeria Touring was chosen to build the bodywork, comprising a steel structural chassis and aluminium body, while the model boasted an engine with 1,975-cc displacement. When production ceased in 1958, some 599 units of the perennially handsome 1900 Super Sprint Coupé had been made. As detailed in a letter from Alfa Romeo’s Centro Documentazione Storica, dated 1996 (available to view on file), chassis 10232 was manufactured in October 1956, finished in Blue. It was sold to the marque dealership Società per il Commercio dei Prodotti Alfa Romeo in Lugano, Switzerland. Between 1984 and 1996, the car was owned by a P. Jappert of Widen, Switzerland. The subsequent owner was a Dr St. Zierhut from Ohlstadt, Germany, who retained the car until 1999. The Super Sprint was then acquired by a G. Manfred of St Vith, Belgium, who maintained the car with the Dutch garage Charles Poelmans, before it joined The Curated Collection in 2013. Please note it is believed that the engine number has been restamped. A charming example of “the family car that wins races” this 1900 C Super Sprint would be a lovely companion for weekend drives, rallies, or tours—while providing eligibility for landmark events including the Mille Miglia. 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint Coupé by Touring RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. A superb car with a single family ownership and extraordinarily low miles. Surely the best in the world. Background When Alejandro de Tomaso acquired Maserati in 1976, he had ambitious plans for the marque. His aim was to combine the prestige of the Maserati brand with a sports car that would be more affordable, replacing the higher priced models that had traditionally made up the Maserati range. In the 1980s, BMW's E30 ruled the roost for well heeled buyers who wanted a practical car that drove well and sounded good. Keen to grab a piece of this hugely lucrative market, Maserati introduced the BiTurbo in 1981. The concept was simple: a two-door coupé or a four-door saloon, but with a huge dollop of Italian style and purpose. A V6 under the bonnet came with two turbos, which was a first for a production car. The Car The car on offer here is surely the best surviving example in the world, having covered just 12,270km (7,624 miles) from new under a single family ownership. Supplied new in Bologna in 1988, it was cared for from new by Autosport of Bologna during its time in Italy. Very few options were available at the time of ordering, but it was specified with a Nardi wooden wheel and Borrani Milan wire wheels (the original alloys are also included in the sale). There was also a high-spec option of power steering and an electric roof, which was also ticked on the order form. It is believed that of the 524 cars ever produced, only 24 were specified this way. It spent the first 21 years of its life in Italy, with the only change of ownership being from father to son, who then imported the car in 2019 when he himself moved to the UK. Following a period of dry storage, the car was treated to a substantial recommissioning, with all fluids replaced, brand new tyres, wheels refurbished, paint corrected where necessary, repolished interior wood veneer, detailed Alcantara trim, stainless steel exhaust, new cam belt and a full service. Supplied with a fresh MOT with 'no advisories'. The results are stunning and we gather the car once again drives like new. The car has a substantial history file which includes the complete book pack, original bill of sale, all Italian documents and proof of Italian provenance. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a beautifully preserved part of Maserati's history. 1988 Maserati Biturbo 420 Si Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1970 Opel GT 1900
The Americans had their Corvette, a beefy and elegant sports car as a counterpoint to the ubiquitous Ford Mustang. Apart from the Porsche 911/912, the Germans didn't really have a thing for real sports enthusiasts. Until the Opel GT turned the established middle class on its head. The strongly waisted Flounder stands like no other car for the fact that racy sports cars can be affordable. Suddenly it no longer had to be a Porsche that made the children's jaws drop on the street corner. The lightning bolt stood out like no other and was a sign of a new generation of cars. Anyone who found a Kadett too stuffy and an Ascona too embarrassing fell in love with the mercilessly desirable design of the Opel GT, even though, according to Opel, series production was not planned (it was initially said). Things turned out differently. In the fall of 1968, the Opel GT, which was advertised with the slogan “Only flying is more beautiful,” entered the automotive world. Technically, the car was based on the Kadett B, from which the 60 hp engine also came. But this weaker version only remained in the program for two years. The car with the 1900 S engine from the Opel Rekord C became a successful model. Because the four-cylinder engine with an output of 90 hp did not quite fit under the flat hood, it was given a characteristic bulge at the front right - which only made the design even more extravagant made more casual. Incidentally, Opel bought the bodies from a French manufacturer; the GT was manufactured in the Bochum plant. By the end of production in the fall of 1973, 103,373 examples had left the factory. The majority of the vehicles, namely exactly 84,000 models, were exported, primarily to the USA. There the crisp Opel made a career as a miniature Corvette. In general, with the GT, Opel demonstrated a sense for young automotive talent. The 60 hp version was initially available from 10,780 marks, the more powerful 90 hp model cost 11,880 marks. When the small GT was phased out, the GT Junior was introduced in 1971. The model was technically completely identical to the normal GT, but was offered significantly cheaper, namely from 10,500 marks. All chrome trim was eliminated and replaced with parts painted matt black. GT Junior drivers also had to do without vent windows, corduroy seat covers, some cockpit instruments and carpet mats. But that didn't dampen the enthusiasm for the car. On the contrary: the matt black accents looked good on the car. The end came suddenly in the fall of 1973. The French body manufacturer had been bought by Renault and stopped deliveries; In addition, stricter US regulations would have required a thorough renovation of the GT. Opel then had the model discontinued without replacement. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION Beautiful Opel GT in a unique color combination that makes the already desirable coupé an absolute eye-catcher. The Americans loved the Mini-Corvette, so it's no wonder that half of the production went to the USA and, depending on the state, it was able to survive to this day without major restoration work, unlike vehicles from our latitudes. This wonderful GT came from Florida some time ago and has obviously seen very little rain and certainly no snow or salt. In contrast to many vehicles from Europe, which have been restored more poorly than fairly and have a lot of poorly fitting fiberglass parts installed, this car is still made entirely of sheet metal. Logically, after over 50 years, the paint and upholstery could no longer keep up with the good body and were renewed a few years ago in high quality and show no major signs of wear either inside or outside. Before the full TÜV report was carried out, the GT received some wear-and-tear repairs in Germany, such as a new aluminum radiator, complete brakes, seals, tires, tank ventilation, etc. Plus new ATS rims with wide tires, which make the little coupé appear muscular. All chassis bushings were recently replaced with red PU bushings. This means that the car is not necessarily suitable for people with spinal disc injuries, but it sits like a proverbial board on the road. The well-known 1900 engine from many Opel models sounds and feels perfectly healthy, the transmission shifts smoothly and the entire electrical system works, right down to the well-fitting and smoothly functioning pop-up headlights. The chassis is sporty and firm and the steering is direct. Thanks to the technology adopted from large-scale production, the supply of spare parts is good. The floor pan and chassis came from the Kadett B. The reliable 1.9 liter engine was taken from the Rekord C. Overall, a rare and at the same time very attractive GT that is difficult to find these days. 1970 Opel GT 1900 DLS Automobile If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1964 Iso Rivolta GT 300
First registration 12.1964 Swiss road registration with veteran entry The Iso Rivolta 300 is a luxurious coupe developed in 1962 by Iso Automotoveicoli S.p.A. in Bresso, a suburb of Milan. The intention of entrepreneur Renzo Rivolta, together with former Ferrari engineer Giotto Bizzarrini, was to create a Gran Turismo car in the original sense of the word (“great journey”). For racing, however, the Iso Rivolta 300 was not homologated as a “GT” (Gran Turismo), but as a touring car. Between 1962 and 1970, 792 Bertone coupes were built, with designations varying between GT Coupé, IR 300/340 or just Iso-Rivolta. According to the will of its designers, the car should be characterized by a powerful engine, a high quality chassis and an elegant body. The engine and transmission of the Iso Rivolta 300 were not the car’s own designs, but large-series units from General Motors and BorgWarner respectively. The V8 cylinder with 5.4 liters displacement corresponds to that of the Chevrolet Corvette. The four-speed transmission is fully synchronized and is shifted with a center shift lever. The front wheels of the Iso Rivolta 300 are suspended on double wishbones of different lengths with anti-roll bars. In the rear, the car has a de-dion axle with wading linkage (for precise axle lateral control) and double trailing arms. Front and rear suspensions have coil springs and hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. The sleek body was created by Bertone, a coupe with a wheelbase of 270 cm, which provides ample space for four to five people. The luxurious interior is equipped with cowhide leather at extra cost. The arrangement of the steering wheel, gearshift, switches and pedals is considered exemplary, with the distance from brake pedal to accelerator pedal chosen to allow easy downshifting with “intermediate throttle”. This Iso Rivolta GT 300 originated in Portugal and was in the same ownership there for well over 30 years before finding its way to Switzerland via Austria. A few years ago the car was completely restored and is in very nice top collector condition. 1964 Iso Rivolta GT 300 Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1995 BMW 850 Ci
Unlike contemporary BMW sister models such as the 3-, 5-, or 7 Series, the 850i launched at the 1989 International Motor Show (IAA) as a “clean sheet” design and without ties to earlier versions of its platform. The new 8 Series proudly carried the lineage of its BMW badge, though, with a flat nose reminiscent of the earlier M1 while being touted as an indirect successor to the outgoing E24-generation 6 Series, at that point the company’s flagship grand tourer coupé. As the first examples were released for public consumption, the 8 Series made a bold impression, with its 5.0-litre V-12 engine rated by the factory for a 300 PS output. Customers could choose between a four-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission, with the example offered here equipped with the former. Originally ordered in 1994 model year specification for the European market, the BMW is understood to have been bought new by a Sheikh living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, who ultimately did not take delivery of the car. Instead, it was bought by a Finnish citizen residing in the Middle East, who took the BMW with them upon returning to live in Europe. As a result, the 850 Ci carries selected Gulf-specific features, such as enhanced air conditioning and being built without a catalytic converter. Acquired by The Munich Masterpieces Collection in 2007, the BMW shows 90,344 kilometres at the time of cataloguing and is offered with books and manuals, a Birth Certificate by BMW Classic that verifies this example’s matching-numbers engine, further to its boot-mounted toolkit. Please note, due to this car’s build configuration for the Middle East, buyers are encouraged to make sure that the BMW can be taken to their intended country of registration prior to bidding. 1995 BMW 850 Ci RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1986 Ferrari Testarossa 1
Popularized by appearances in Miami Vice, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Straight Outta Compton the distinctive Bianco livery turns the Testarossa, already a symbol of 1980s excess, into the poster car for a generation. As an early production example, the car offered here features the ‘Monospecchio’ a-pillar mounted single rear view mirror, alongside the ‘Monodado’ single-bolt wheels. Finished in the tantalizingly rare color scheme of Bianco over a matching Bianco interior, it was delivered new to Salem Ali Abdul Al-Sabah of Kuwait, a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family, through Al-Baraha Company W.L.L., the official Ferrari importers of Kuwait. Factory records note that the Testarossa was delivered in December 1986. Three years later, the car was exported to Switzerland in June 1989. There, the car remained until being exported to the US in May 2001, showing just 25,080 miles at the time of importation according to the accompanying Carfax. Upon its arrival in the US, the Testarossa was sent to G&K Automotive in Santa Ana, California to be federalized for US road use, with completion of the federalization work in September that same year. To ease registration in the US, the car was registered under the 1989 model year. In addition, the Testarossa was also fitted with front and rear indicators and a third brake light. Registered with its new US owner in Connecticut, the car would remain there until January 2020 when it was purchased by a new owner in Pennsylvania. Acquired by the current owner just a few years ago, the Testarossa has been well maintained in his ownership, primarily looked after by GTO Engineering in Los Angeles. The car received a minor service with replacement of the coolant hoses, oil change, and new brake fluid and front pads in January 2023. A few months later, a full engine out service with timing belt, rear main seal replacement, and a replacement of the differential carrier was undertaken in June 2023. Since the timing belt change, the car has been driven less than 600 miles. Today, the odometer shows just under 34,500 miles from new, which is believed to be the original mileage for the car following an odometer change from kilometers to miles during federalization. Additionally, it is important to note that the car is accompanied by its four original Monodado wheels, some original Testarossa marketing literature, a set of manuals, tool kit, jack, original key, Ferrari-branded car cover, and OEM Ferrari seat covers. Finally, enhancing the Testarossa 1980’s flair is a period-correct Nakamichi head unit with an A/D/S amplifier, making for the perfect acoustic partner to the exceptional soundtrack of the original and complete European-specification exhaust from the flat-twelve. Within Testarossa production, it is the earliest production cars, fitted with both the Monospecchio rear view mirror and Monodado wheels, that are the most collectible, not only for their rarity but the character that they add to the car itself. Additionally, with color becoming increasingly more important in today’s market, white will always remain the color of choice for those looking to purchase a Testarossa, especially when coupled with a matching white interior, a color combination that was very seldom specified when new, despite its near-universal retro appeal today. As such, this Testarossa stands out as one of the most desirable examples available today. 1986 Ferrari Testarossa RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. In the mid-’80s, the MP4/2 and subsequent MP4/2B, MP4/2C, and finally MP4/3 were the cars to beat. A combination of John Barnard’s pioneering carbon composite chassis and the Porsche-designed and built TAG TTE P01 V6 twin-turbo engine led Alain Prost and Niki Lauda to three drivers and two constructors championships. These times were wild – limited safety, engines were turbocharged, small capacity units producing vast amounts of horsepower. Ron Dennis, in search of a manufacturer to provide a reliable turbocharged engine, partnered with Mansour Ojjeh’s TAG and approached Porsche. Hans Mezger headed up the project and designed a relatively narrow 80 degree V6 cylinder twin-turbocharged engine capable of producing 1060hp in its most potent qualifying trim. The design and materials used employed innovative technologies that are more commonplace in contemporary Formula 1 cars, but were unusual in period: cooling channels around the valve seats housing sodium-filled valves fed from twin water pumps mounted at the end of the engine itself; KKK handed turbo-chargers; forged pistons supplied by Mahle and titanium connecting rods. The TAG-Porsche TTE P01 V6 was an icon winning 26 Grand Prix – to celebrate how special the engine was, the team came up with the idea to install it in Porsche’s ultimate road car of the period, the 911 Turbo. The one-off Porsche 930 TAG Turbo is the original expression of “a Formula 1 engine installed in a road car”. The car has subtle aesthetic differences versus the standard 930 Turbo, specifically a deeper front splitter (unlike the air-cooled three litre flat six-cylinder engine in the standard car, the TAG-Turbo is water-cooled, necessitating the introduction of radiators in the front of the car); a larger rear wing; Ruf alloy wheels, and a turbo boost gauge that went to three bars. The car remained the singular example of a Porsche Formula 1 engine installed in a road car for many years, until one day in April 2017 we visited McLaren Technology Center, home of McLaren Racing. We enquired if we could purchase the one-off 930 TAG Turbo, which was respectfully declined, which led us to then ask about an engine for an exact copy of the one-off, which we would build at Lanzante. McLaren agreed to consider it and get back to us. Meanwhile, we considered what would be required to build the second car to the correct standard – we realized that in order to produce a car of the highest quality, we would need to produce a small volume run of 930 TAG Turbos. Some time was spent on the details of the build, and we eventually arrived at a production number of 11 cars, one car for each driver in each year the Porsche TAG Turbo engine contested Grand Prix in a McLaren chassis. McLaren Racing agreed to sell us sufficient examples of the TAG Turbo V6, and the Porsche 930 TAG Turbo by Lanzante was born. We studied the original one-off, and developed our concept more accurately – we wanted to stay true to the original car, but contemporaneously improve on the quality, and drivability and utilize the best technology available to us. Every engine used in a Porsche 930 TAG Turbo by Lanzante is an original, designed and built by Porsche in period, TTE P01 twin turbo V6, and used in a Formula 1 car in the period. We have partnered with Cosworth, a world-class automotive engineering company, to re-engineer and re-built the race engines to the most optimal form for use in a Porsche 911 road car. The development journey has resulted in a package that delivers: 503 bhp at 8,500rpm and 420Nm in maximum torque Maximum engine speed of 9,000 rpm Maximum boost pressure of 3 bar Total weight of an engine – 130kg (which is 130kg less than the standard engine in a 930 Turbo road car). AP85 started as a lovely 1987 930 Turbo that was in great driving condition. Once sourced, the car was transported to Lanzante LTD in November of '20 to start its transition into one of the lucky eleven TAG Turbo's. When working through the initial vehicle specification, it was determined that the car would be finished in Porsche Slate Grey over a "Manor Red Leather/Houndstooth" interior. Completing its build in February of '22, the car was then flown over to the United States to join a collection of some historic McLaren Grand Prix cars. AP85's engine was most notably used in the 1985 Holland Grand Prix and 1986 French Grand Prix, propelling Prost to a 2nd place finish in each. Stefan Johansson would then have this engine strapped behind him in the 1987 Monaco Grand Prix where he suffered a DNF and in France where the engine would take him to an 8th place finish. Benefits from an annual service with Lanzante LTD in October of '24 Includes a second set of comfort seats Beautifully presented in a period-correct spec, this is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a remarkable TAG Turbo built by Lanzante. 1987 Porsche "TAG" Turbo AP85 Mouse Motors LLC If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1986-ford-sierra-rs-cosworth-1
A remarkably original example of the, rightly idolised, whale-tail 'Cossie', one of the very best we have seen and just 27,742 miles from new. At its introduction in 1982, the Sierra's revolutionary new shape proved a touch more divisive than Ford had anticipated and some serious marketing became a priority, so it was the obvious choice to become the platform for Ford's new competition aspirations in conjunction with Cosworth. It fitted the brief well as it was rear-wheel drive, had good aerodynamics, albeit being prone to lift at high speeds, and was available as a three-door. The new body kit and rear spoiler would sort out the lift issues but, more importantly, Ford still needed to build 5,000 units for homologation, somewhat worrying when the company's initial approach to the dealer network came back with an estimate that suggested they could sell around 1,500 units! The eventual sales record is, of course, history. Ford went on to sell 5,545 three-door cars including the RS500, of which only 500 were built, and the Cosworth engine also found its way into nearly 30,000 Ford Sierra Saloons (Cosworth three-door, Sapphire two-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive). Finished in Ford Motorsport Diamond White with the traditional grey cloth interior, this very special, UK-supplied, right-hand drive example remains in truly remarkable, original condition. The warranted mileage is just 27,715, corroborated by older MOTs and service stamps in the dealer service record. First registered on 24th November 1986, the car was subsequently sold twice in its first four years before being purchased by its next enthusiast vendor who retained it for the next 32 years. The 32-year, long-term owner was a Ford employee at the time, who loved, cherished and maintained the car to a very high standard. Many cars represent part of the family, and as a Ford technician at the time, and remaining a Ford enthusiast, it is undeniably fantastic to see such a well-maintained example, retaining its totally original specification and kept in this way purely out of the love and respect for the car. It is an incredibly special example that has always lived in the garage, being maintained and kept as pristine as possible. He then sold the car through our NEC auction a few years ago and it has formed part of our private vendor's impressive private collection ever since. He has followed on as the last long-term vendor did and ensured the car has been kept in heated storage to ensure its originality is kept and respected. It's supplied with a good history file containing the all-important original service book, service schedule and invoices for parts over the years, as well as a selection of old MOTs. Pleasingly correct and immaculately presented, this RS Cosworth comes with all the correct documentation, an impressive history file and the kudos of its FoMoCo heritage. So seldom seen in such fabulous condition with such impressive originality, this is one of the finest Sierra Cosworths to come to market in recent times. We are privileged to have been asked to sell a number of these ever-popular performance saloons cars and feel that, given this car’s history, low-mileage and fabulous condition, this 'Cossie' is very sensibly guided and one of the best examples we have seen. 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1986 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale
What is there to say about the Lancia Delta S4 which hasn’t been said before? In its full-fat Martini-liveried Group B guise, it took fearless and charismatic drivers such as Henri Toivonen and Markku Alén to another dimension of performance. And as a road car, it pioneered twin-charging, an innovation we take for granted nowadays, and proudly showed that road-going Group B homologation specials were not the poorly-built bodge-jobs they’d earned a reputation as being. It might be an alumni of the ‘form follows function’ school of thought, but the S4 Stradale is a beautifully built object, both above and below the surface. Its mid-mounted twin-charged four-cylinder engine sent its ample power to all four wheels via a five-speed gearbox and not one but three differentials. And its Alcantara-strewn, air-conditioned cabin is honestly one of the best we’ve ever sat in. “In its full-fat Martini-liveried Group B guise, the Lancia Delta S4 took fearless and charismatic drivers such as Henri Toivonen and Markku Alén to another dimension of performance.” Because Lancia didn’t build the required 200 S4 Stradales to homologate the road car (we reckon as few as 70 left Turin) they’re shrouded in mystery and, as a result, attracting the interest of more and more collectors with every passing day. Another by-product is that these cars are commonly misconstrued to be intimidating and scarcely-useable turbocharged monsters. In reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Chassis number 033 This Lancia S4 Stradale is chassis number 033, which was awarded its Certificate of Origin on Christmas Eve of 1986, as noted on its Italian Estratto Chronologico. In March the following year, the car was sold to its first owner, Clipper Auto Ltd in Livorno, and assigned the registration ‘LI 385622’. A year later, ACI Leasing in Vicenza acquired chassis 033 and reregistered it with the number ‘VI 772093’. A handful of further Italian custodians followed until December of 1998, when this Lancia was bought by ART Engineering Ltd. The UK-based company was founded by Paolo Alessandrini, the famed Italian racing driver who competed in the World Rally Championship with a Lancia Delta S4 Corsa, the Audi Quattro and the Peugeot 205 T16 among others. Chassis 033’s next public appearance was in 2005, when it appeared at the Christie’s Exceptional Motor Cars and Automobilia auction. The car remained in England and was subsequently registered with the UK number ‘C39 OVX’. The then-owner took the decision to send this S4 Stradale to the renowned Lancia specialists Elio and Giovanni Baldi in Turin to be restored. In the process of working as part of the Lancia Martini Racing Team and Abarth during the Group B and Group A eras of rallying, they gained great knowledge, experience and respect. Today, there is simply no better people to maintain and restore these precious Lancias. During the restoration, the Baldi twins rebuilt the engine, gearbox and differentials, using their knowledge to upgrade the engine from ‘standard’ Stradale specification to ‘Potenziato’ specification, which boasts well over 300bhp. The upgrade involved installing a new and upgraded clutch, enhanced engine software and a new exhaust system. Chassis 033 was treated to a comprehensive ‘nut-and-bolt’ restoration, with the car being stripped right back to its tub. All mechanical components including the suspension and brakes were also restored. The end product was nothing short of sensational – a truly ‘as-new’ S4 Stradale. “The ‘Potenziato’ upgrade carried out by the Baldi twins involved installing a new and upgraded clutch, enhanced engine software and a new exhaust system.” Finished in Rosso Amaranto, chassis 033 was acquired by Timothy Pappas, a real-estate tycoon and the owner of Black Swan Racing in the United States. In May of 2016, the online automotive publication Petrolicious interviewed Pappas and photographed the car for a feature. Black Swan Racing is an IMSA team, which maintained this Lancia during Pappas’ ownership. Later in 2016, the S4 was sold to a significant and sizeable Chicago-based collection, where it was seldom used. Girardo & Co. negotiated the purchase of chassis 033 in August of 2018, returning the car to Europe and re-registering it in the United Kingdom. In November of that year, Classic Driver featured this S4 Stradale in yet another online magazine feature. It commented. “In reality, the S4 is not the intimidating and excessive monster is appears from the outside. It is actually a beautifully resolved sports car which you can really feel the technology beneath working with you.” You can click here to read the full story. Following its moment in the spotlight, we opted to return chassis 033 to the Baldi twins in Turin, where the car was thoroughly inspected and serviced prior to delivery to its penultimate owner, a UK-based collector of rare Lancias. Said collector has driven the car seldomly since, though it has always been carefully stored and maintained. At this time, chassis 033 starred as the feature car in our definitive guide on the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, which you can read by clicking here. The car also featured in the Earls Court display at the world-famous Goodwood Revival meeting in 2021, which was themed for road-going homologation models. “Having dealt with over 10 of these Group B unicorns, we can confirm this Delta S4 Stradale is one of the best we’ve encountered.” Having dealt with over 10 of these Group B unicorns, we can confirm this Delta S4 Stradale is one of the best we’ve encountered, having been used sparingly since its meticulous restoration undertaken by the world’s leading marque experts. Furthermore, chassis 033 is accompanied by its tool roll, jack, spare wheel, Italian ownership documentation, Lancia Classiche certification binder and its Girardo & Co. history file, which includes many images of the aforementioned restoration process. Its odometer currently reads 23,650km. The mighty and mysterious Lancia Delta S4 Stradale is arguably the most special and technologically fascinating road-going Group B homologation special, of which we believe as few as 70 were built in 1985 and 1986.
