  • 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL

"The one is a sports car with limousine comfort, the other a comfort limousine with sports car performance. Which one will you choose?" - Mercedes-Benz As the cherry on top, Mercedes launched the 280 SL W113 in 1967 after the great success of the 230 SL and 250 SL. For many of us, they saved the best for last. A larger 2.8L engine with 20 additional roaring Stuttgart horses and an insanely sharp-sounding inline-6 made all the difference for many people, making this model an instant success. The chassis was a shortened version of the W111 S-Class generation, and the M180 was, in reality, an advanced development of an aircraft engine. With its elongated nose, large Bakelite steering wheel, rear-wheel drive, and immense popularity, the model earned itself a nickname: the Pagoda. The nickname ‘Pagoda’ comes from the W113 model range's distinctive roof design, which resembles the curved roofs of Far Eastern temples... need we say more? Ours is a prime example! Originally delivered in the Netherlands at the end of 1968 and since then owned by only 3 happy owners. Under its last owner, this example was professionally repainted in Arabergrau Metallic, which, combined with the red interior, gives this already stylish Pagoda even more character. Exceptionally well-maintained, which you’ll feel every second behind the wheel. • 1963 Aston Martin DB4

In many ways, the DB4 was the model that foretold Aston Martin’s future. Introduced in 1958, the saloon was entirely new from the ground-up; a newly designed chassis was fitted with all-round disc brakes, and the famous engineer Tadek Marek designed an all-new six-cylinder engine. All this was housed in a stunning saloon fastback body penned by Touring of Milan; it was this styling that would influence future Aston Martin models for many years to come. As the years progressed, Aston Martin continued to refine its star model; aficionados have separated the model into five distinct series. Upgrades to successive series included subtle body modifications including recessed rear lights, a lower bonnet scoop, and a new grille with vertical bars, in addition to the resolution of mechanical issues such as engine overheating. The DB4 GT was launched the following year in 1959, and was powered by 3,670 cc twin-overhead camshaft engine, breathing via three Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, and producing a claimed 302 brake horsepower at 6,000 rpm. In 1961, Aston Martin unveiled a convertible version of the DB4. With just 70 produced, the DB4 Convertible is one of Aston Martin’s rarer models. Delivered on 19 July 1963 to Aston Martin of Brooklands, Weybridge, chassis DB4C/1173/R was a very special example of the Series V Convertible. It left the factory in the stunning colour combination of Midnight Blue over a Red Connolly leather interior, complemented by optional chrome wire wheels and a Powr-Lok 3.31:1 differential. But what really set it apart was its powerplant, being the only example of its type to be fitted with a DB4 GT-specification engine by the Aston Martin factory. Collected by its first owner, Mr. Goodwin of Hale, Cheshire, chassis 1173/R was first registered with the number plate “70 GLB”. From 1963 to 1970, little is known about the history of this DB4, though factory service notes state in February 1967 that the GT engine was replaced due to failure and exchanged with a standard unit. Chassis DB4C/1173/R was clearly in regular use, with service notes from 1963 to 1971 showing more than 65,000 miles had been covered, with regular maintenance carried out. By the early 1970s, a Mr. Stroud of Hampstead, North London had acquired the car and re-registered it with the rather fitting “DB 4” number plate. Of note are period photographs depicting this DB4 at a farm, with Mr. Stroud posing next to chassis 1173/R alongside amateur racer Nick Cussons and his DB5. Stroud retained the car for just a few years before selling it to Hewlett Packard executive Marcel Cohen-Hadria, who had the car exported to California. Notes on the build sheet confirm that Cohen-Hadria owned the car from 1974 until 1977, before selling it to a gentleman in Connecticut. By 1984, The Aston Martin Register notes that the car had returned to the UK and was registered as “114 JGF”, then fitted with engine number 370/0692. Four years later, this DB4 Convertible was still in the UK, but no ownership details are recorded. At some point thereafter, this Aston Martin found its way back to the United States, and in July 2006 was owned by a gentleman in the state of Maine. The car was in need of total restoration, but still retained the supplying “Cheshire Sports Cars” dealership plate on the glove box—likely a relic from its first owner, Mr. Goodwin. Acquired by the current owner in 2014, the decision was taken to send chassis DB4C/1173/R to Aston Martin Works for a no-expenses-spared, concours-standard restoration. This DB4 is accompanied by an Aston Martin restoration certificate and book, detailing the thousands of hours spent returning the car to its factory specification, documenting stages from paintwork through to the creation of a new “SS” (Special Series) engine block and “GT” cylinder head. During the restoration, Aston Martin began by assessing the condition of the car, before deciding to carry out a bare metal restoration of the body. The bulk of the bodywork was replaced due to its condition; using traditional methods; brand new panels were fabricated by hand. The body was finished in the factory-correct colour of Midnight Blue, and the original interior was re-upholstered in the correct Red Connolly leather. The engine in the car was not of the correct type and was subsequently removed. A new “SS-type” block was fitted, alongside a “GT” cylinder head, meaning that the car is now powered by a GT-specification engine, correct of the type it originally left the Newport Pagnell factory with. The braking and suspension systems were entirely overhauled, and a new wide ratio gearbox was installed. Every facet of the DB4 was touched by the highly skilled team at Aston Martin Works, and part-way through the restoration in 2019, the car was displayed on the firm’s stand at Rétromobile in Paris. By 2022, three long years of work had been completed, and this DB4 Convertible left the workshop in concours condition. The car received an Aston Martin restoration certificate, and leather-bound book detailing the immense amount of work taken to restore the car. The Aston Martin is accompanied by a copy of the build sheet, previous titles, and digital copies of period photographs. Chassis DB4C/1173/R represents the sole chance to acquire the one and only DB4 Convertible fitted with a “GT” engine supplied by the factory. Now beautifully restored by Aston Martin Works, this drop-top DB4 will surely be the pride of its new owner. 1963 Aston Martin DB4 RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1962 Lancia Appia GTE - Coachwork by Zagato

Styled like its Aurelia B10 big brother, Lancia’s new Appia small car arrived in 1953. The Lancia tradition of outstanding innovation in automotive technology was exemplified by the Appia’s ultra-compact engine, a narrow-angle (10°) 1,089cc V4 whose inclined overhead-valves were set in hemispherical combustion chambers and operated by twin camshafts in the block. The unitary chassis construction adopted on the pre-war Aprilia was, naturally enough, continued, as was Lancia’s traditional sliding-pillar independent front suspension. Notchback-style Series II cars came with a lengthened wheelbase and more power (up from 38 to 43bhp) while the final (third) series boasted further styling revisions and 48bhp. Complementing the standard Appia saloon were a series of limited edition models produced on a separate chassis and bodied by leading carrozzeria, Pininfarina being responsible for the Coupé, Vignale the Cabriolet and Zagato the GT Coupé. Engine power was increased to 59bhp for these more sporting Appias which, when equipped with Zagato’s lightweight, aerodynamic coachwork, could touch 100mph. Dating from 1962, this Series II left-hand drive GTE Coupé is typical of Zagato's work of the period. It was delivered new to a Tullio Sergio in Ancona (they went on to run Ferrari 275s in the Mille Miglia). Little is known of the cars early years, but it was sold in 1987 to Fabbri Gabriele in Riccione and then put on display in the Hotel Promenade & Residence Museum just south of Rimini. There are two photos in the history file (and on our website) of the Lancia competing on the Monte Carlo - Sestriere Rally – these are unfortunately undated. Our vendor bought the little Lancia with his father some 30 years ago and it was used until around 2010 before joining their impressive private Collection and has not turned a wheel since. There is without doubt more to find out about this rare car and doing the research on a winter’s evening with a bowl of fresh pasta and a glass of Barolo could be rewarding. The car is supplied with its original L’Ispettorato log book, hotel brochure showing the car in the hotel museum and various receipts and items of correspondence. The car has never been UK-registered. With restored examples having achieved over £100k, this project example with competition provenance is sure to excite. 1962 Lancia Appia GTE - Coachwork by Zagato Iconic Auctioneers Ltd If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce Spider

The Alfa Romeo Giuletta started as a 2+2 coupe dubbed the Giulietta Sprint, introduced at the 1954 Turin Motor Show. A year later, it was joined by the 4-door Berlina and a few months later by the open two-seat Giuletta Spider with bodywork by Pininfarina. A faster version of the Giuletta Spider was also introduced around this time, dubbed the Giuletta Spider Veloce. It featured dual Weber carburetors, hotter cams, a cold-air intake, and higher-compression pistons which combined took the horsepower numbers up to 91 from the 79 hp of the regular Spider. Only 2,796 Spider Veloces were ever produced. It is believed that only 50 Spider Veloces were built between 1956 and 1957, with 37 built in 1957 and a mere 18 in 1956. This particular example, Chassis # AR149502264, was delivered new to Hoffman Motor Car Company in New York on December 17th, 1957 with a Rosso exterior and a black leather interior. This Alfa’s documented history begins ten years ago when it was listed for sale by a broker who found it in a barn in Bethel, Connecticut. Despite sitting for an undetermined number of years, it was an overall solid vehicle with minimal amounts of rust. The current owner and consignor commissioned a full, bare metal restoration of the car that we helped oversee and was finished in September of this year. The body was done by an Alfa specialist in Florida in the original color, while the chrome was handed off to James Abbott, Inc. and DGM Custom Polishing & Finishing of Philadelphia, PA. The engine, transmission, and all corresponding mechanical aspects were fully rebuilt and reconditioned by Proper Noise in Reading, PA. This extensive process left the car looking and running like the day it left the Alfa Romeo factory. It has racked up only 168 miles on the odometer since the completion of the restoration. According to the official Certificate of Origin provided by the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese, Italy, this Spider Veloce is a numbers-matching example with the original 1,300 cc four-cylinder engine still in it. It has original sand-cast Weber carburetors numbered in succession, the correct Marelli generator, a Bosch starter, and the correct badges and decals installed. The correct Marelli starter for the car was just rebuilt and will be included in the sale. Not only is this car an extremely rare example of a beautiful classic Alfa, but its age makes it eligible for The Colorado Grand, Hagerty’s California Mille, and other similar vintage sports car rallies that will allow this car to be enjoyed the way it was meant to be. Both events are extremely exclusive, with The Colorado Grand limiting attendance to sports and sports racing cars manufactured before 1960 while Hagerty’s California Mille is only open to pre-1958 vehicles. Upon purchase, the new owner will receive extensive documentation detailing the car’s restoration process, the Certificate of Origin, factory books and service manuals, as well as the original tool kit, jack, and spare. The Details EXTERIOR Body And Paint This car has undergone a thorough and comprehensive Concours grade restoration which has left the exterior of the car in outstanding condition. The body was taken down to the bare metal, any metal issues were tended to and the car was then beautifully repainted in its original red color. The paint was expertly laid down and remains in outstanding condition, with fantastic color and finish. The body is wonderfully straight and panel gaps are spot-on throughout the car. There are no perceivable cosmetic issues with this car and it would serve wonderfully on the show field. Glass And Trim The side windows appear to be original and are stamped Securit. They do contain some very light scratches which are only perceivable under direct light and close scrutinization. The front windscreen appears to be a replacement unit and has a sticker labeled KAL Laminated. The headlights are clean and tidy with no cosmetic issues, same with the tail lights. The marker lights situated below the headlights appear to be possibly original and show a bit of their age in the finish. The chrome throughout the car was all redone during the restoration and remains in fantastic condition, with perfect shine and finish. Rubber components were also all replaced and remain in perfect condition throughout. Wheels The wheels remain in factory-fresh condition, with perfectly shiny chrome plated centers, smooth painted rims, and center icons that show no issues. The correct Boranni stickers adorn each of the wheels as well. INTERIOR Seats And Surfaces Much like the exterior, the interior of this Veloce Spider was beautifully attended to during restoration. The seats are free of any issues, perfectly stuffed, and with smooth clean seating surfaces and tight stitching. The crinkle finish on top of the dash shows no issues, and the painted front is smooth and colorful. The door cards fit perfectly and the chrome trim throughout the interior is wonderfully done. The correct ribbed mats adorn the floors and the fir walls and fit well with no issues to note. Functionality And Accessories Everything on the relatively spartan interior functions as it would have the day this example left the factory. The doors open and close with ease and the windows wind up and down smoothly. All the gauges appear to read their appropriate functions as intended. The shifter moves smoothly through its range of motion. ENGINE BAY AND TRUNK Engine Bay The engine bay follows the theme of top-tier craftsmanship, with the correct finishes, clamps, and stickers adorning surfaces. Hoses, tubes, and wires are all brand new and remain in fantastic condition. Painted surfaces are smooth and bright. The finish of the block and valve covers is a delightful and clean silver color. Correct Marelli and other components adorn the engine bay throughout leaving this highly correct and ready for the show field. Trunk Area The trunk area is clean and tidy with the correct ribbed black mat adorning the floor and a proper Magneti Marelli battery tucked away on the passenger side. The painted surfaces are smooth and tidy, showing no signs of metal issues beneath. The black rubber seal around the edges of the boot lid is brand new and supple. There is also a Salchi paint decal situated on the back wall of the trunk rounding out the correct nature of the trunk area. Underside The underside of this car is beautifully finished and reflects the careful craftsmanship as well as the scant 168 miles covered since the completion of the restoration. Factory-correct finishes abound with smooth and issue-free painted surfaces throughout. All mechanical components look brand new and show no signs of any issues. Much like the rest of the car, the underside remains highly correct and in show quality condition. MECHANICALS Engine The entire engine and transmission systems were completely rebuilt by the experts at Proper Noise in Reading, PA and it shows in the strong running and driving nature of the car. It fires to life with relative ease and once up to temperature idles smooth and clean. Out on the road it makes excellent linear power with flat spots or stumbles with a glorious and raspy exhaust note emanating from the rear of the car. Transmission The transmission shifts incredibly smoothly, engaging gears with ease. The clutch takeup is spot on and holds power well throughout the rev range. Despite it only having 4 gears, it is still extremely useable, even at modern highway speeds. Brakes And Suspension The braking system feels tight and responsive, bringing the car to a smooth and controlled stop with no issues to note. The suspension is smooth but compliant with no odd road noises or behavior. Truly a joy to drive! Tires The tires are period correct looking and brand new Pirelli Cinturato CA 67 on all four corners. They have but 168 miles on them and remain in excellent condition, with solid side walls and basically new tread. DRIVING EXPERIENCE Light and nimble would be the two best adjectives to describe the driving experience of these early Veloce Spiders. With a relatively spartan, but well-trimmed, interior, it puts the driving experience first and foremost. The power is ample, thanks to the lightweight nature of the car, with a beautifully raspy exhaust note. The turn-in is nimble and the road feel is fantastic. These cars are truly a joy to drive and it's one of the reasons they tend to be utilized so often on vintage rallies and tours. This particular example, being such an early model, means that is eligible for some of the more exclusive events, such as the Colorado Grand and Hagerty California Mille. Thanks to the fastidious restoration, this car would be just as at home motoring through one of these rally events as it would be on any show field in the country. 1957 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce Spider LBI Limited If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal 1

This rare Alfa Romeo Coupé was delivered in Switzerland and was first registered on 25 October 1972. The front seats were probably reupholstered in black goatskin in the early 1980s and the Montreal was painted in ‘marrone metallizzato’. In October 1986, the Alfa was deregistered and integrated into the collection of a garage owner. A few years later, he decided to preserve the coupé with around 106,000 kilometres on the clock and park it in his garage. Finally, in 2020, the Montreal was freed from the garage and carefully put back into operation - all the fluids were replaced, the brake lines were renewed, the petrol tank was flushed and refilled, and the engine was fitted with new spark plugs. Unfortunately, time had left traces of rust on the bodywork and it was decided to restore it. In the course of this work, the original colour was revealed and the Montreal was given a complete paint job in AR 601 - Orange. The Alfa Romeo now presents itself in new splendour, the interior shows signs of wear commensurate with its age and the engine and gearbox are in perfect working order. The last Swiss Mot as a veteran vehicle took place in May 2022. 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal Oldtimer Galerie International GmbH If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible 1

The DB4 GT was launched the following year in 1959, and was powered by 3,670 cc twin-overhead camshaft engine, breathing via three Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, and producing a claimed 302 brake-horsepower at 6,000 rpm. 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1991 Ferrari Testarossa 1

Swiss delivery Matching numbers Swiss road registration The Ferrari Testarossa offered here was delivered in April 1990 in the color Giallo Modena and leather black by the then Ferrari dealer Sportgarage Bruno Wyss in Zofingen, to a customer in the Solothurn area. The car has always been perfectly maintained and is in top collector condition with just over 49’000 original kilometers. The on-board folder with all documentation, owner’s manual, service booklet and neatly kept exhaust maintenance document are present as well as the original on-board tools, jack and a workshop manual. This beautiful Ferrari Testarossa is matching numbers and colors and comes fresh from the MOT. The Motor Show in Paris saw the return of the glorious Testarossa, a descendant of the 512 BBi, in October 1984. Pininfarina’s design broke with tradition while being both stunning and innovative. The side air intakes were larger than those on the previous model. This led to the introduction of the side planks that would soon become the Testarossa’s trademark. The car’s name, which means “red head” in Italian, derives from the red-painted valve covers of the 12-cylinder engine, which was equipped with four valves per cylinder: this was also, at the time of the car’s presentation, the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production sports car. 1991 Ferrari Testarossa Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. • 1995 Porsche 911 GT2

The vehicle offered here is without doubt one of the most extraordinary Porsches we have ever offered for sale. The term automobile is probably out of place. A work of art would be a much better description. With only 11 units built, a Porsche 993 GT2 EVO is already one of the rarest models ever built in Zuffenhausen or Weissach. The example shown here, however, is an absolute one-off. Built by Porsche to celebrate the presentation of the GT2 EVO at the 1995 IAA in Frankfurt. For this purpose, the car was given a unique paint job. A masterpiece in the so-called ”Harlekin” design was created in elaborate manual work to show what is feasible on the Porsche stand - and not only in technical terms. Nowadays, there would only be one place for such a unique specimen, namely the Porsche Museum. In 1995 this was different. One of the most important and influential customers of the brand made a decision at the sight of this car, from which he would not be dissuaded. This GT2 EVO was to find its way into his private museum. And so it happened that Porsche actually sold the car. This process was undoubtedly as unique as the car itself and is unlikely to have been repeated in this form a second time in the company’s history. The new owner regarded the Porsche as a pure work of art, lavishly displayed in his private collection. Untouched in 25 years - although the car was kept ready for use at all times. It is thanks to this meticulous care that, at the time of its purchase by our company in 2020, this unique specimen arrived in our halls in fully operational condition. For the following 3 years, the car remained in our in-house collection before the decision was made to release this unique piece for sale. The statement ”a unique opportunity” is clearly given too lightly in our industry these days, in this case it seems almost an understatement. To be able to call this car your own is simply like reaching the Olympus as a Porsche collector. 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 JamesEdition B.V. • 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi

In October 1976, no doubt spurred on by the imminent arrival of Lamborghini's wild LP400 Countach S, Ferrari upstaged the financially troubled Sant' Agata manufacturer by releasing their 512 Berlinetta Boxer at the Paris Auto Salon, a revised version of the 365 BB, one that was more driveable in all conditions and with an enlarged 5.0-litre engine to provide greater torque. With the exception of a wider rear track, few set-up changes were made, the outgoing 365's 4.4-litre flat-12 engine undergoing the most fundamental revisions. Despite no fundamental changes being made to the bodywork, a couple of detail alterations do help identify 512's from 365 BB's. Most obviously was a new wraparound chin spoiler, NACA ducts carved out from in front of the rear wheel arches and twin rear lights rather than distinctive triple clusters. New wing mirrors and a mildly reworked rear valance housing four exhaust pipes instead of six also differentiated the new version. Inside some minor switchgear and instrument relocation could be noticed. The 512 Berlinetta Boxer continued in production until late 1981, by which time some 823 left hand drive examples had been completed and only 106 right hand drive examples. Later in the year 1981, during October Paris Salon, Ferrari's 512 BBi most notably marked the arrival of fuel injection on Ferrari's flat-12. Replacing the familiar Weber carbs (seen on almost every previous Ferrari model) fuel injection not only improved an engine's flexibility but made it much easier to maintain, to live with, to start from cold as well as prolonging the lifetime of the engine. The BBi would remain in production for almost three years. A few minor detail changes were made to the bodywork with clear reflectors inserted into the front bumper and supplementary driving lights now exposed in the grille and even new wing mirrors. 1,007 fuel injected Berlinetta Boxers were completed, taking entire BB production to just over 2,300 examples. Completed in 1984, this example was ordered from new in the lesser seen Nero over matching Nero hide interior. Imported into the USA shortly after it was built, this BBi was sold to its first owner, Tom Marron of Bellmore, through Steven Kessler Motor Cars of New York City. As of early 1990, the car had been sold from Marron back to the supplying dealer. In 1993, the BBi was sold to Bruce Perrone of Pittsburgh having covered just 3,400 kilometres from new. Perrone would again retain the car for just two years, before offering it for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter in September of 1995. Perrone had covered just 900 kilometres in two years and the mileage stood at just 4,300 kilometres by the time the car was 11 years old. The car was purchased by James and Victoria Crozier in 1996 for just $5,100. The Croziers would continue to use this wonderful BBi sparingly; a service invoice on file from 2002 notes the mileage at 9,200 km. It is understood that the car remained in the Pittsburgh area until at least 2003 and sometime thereafter, it was acquired by a New York–based collector. The car moved across to California before purchase by the current owner. Purchased in 2017 by the current custodian, this example was imported and registered in the UK. At the time of import, the BBi had covered just 12,730 kilometres. In the care of a single private owner since, this BBi has been serviced by DK Engineering and received some other mechanical works by reputable marque specialists. Today, presenting with just 13,950 km (8,670 miles) from new, this fantastic example of Ferrari’s final iteration of the Berlinetta Boxer lineage presents superbly. Fully imported, presenting in the rare combination of Nero over Nero hide and UK road registered this BBi is available to view at our showrooms outside London immediately and will be further serviced by DK Engineering as a part of the sale. 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi D.K.
