Low mile example with known service history since new
General History
Introduced in 1999, the Ferrari 360 Modena represented the pinnacle of design and engineering at the close of the 20th century. Given the rapidly advancing technology of the new millennium, it was clear Ferrari was intent on dominating the next century. The original design was truly remarkable as it offered one of the most advanced production methods of construction combined with a newly derived V8 engine. The aluminum space frame chassis was state of the art being 40% stiffer than the F355 and yet 28% lighter. The new engine developed just under 400hp, while taking advantage of developments in advanced aerodynamics. No detail was ignored including the decision to locate the engine in a layout that no longer necessitated costly “engine out” timing belt services.
The new Pininfarina design was unlike anything before, curvaceous, yet aggressive and the first to feature the now iconic clear engine cover. Fresh and innovative, the 360 delivered a distinct Ferrari look that set the standard for future generations to come. The design remained in production until 2004, the last year for the 360 series. Although Ferrari built a total of 4,199 US market Modenas, fewer than half of the production, 1,810, were coupes, 469 of which were outfitted with the highly desirable 6-speed manual transmission.
History of this Example
According to the owner’s manual accompanying this car, this 360 Modena was delivered to factory authorized Ferrari dealer, Shelton Sports Cars, Fort Lauderdale, FL on July 21, 2000. Beginning with service entries in the original Ferrari Owner’s book, in 2003, service was performed at 370 miles. Consecutively accumulated miles subsequently accrued with owners in Ohio, Nevada, then finally residing in California in 2007 where the car was serviced first at “The Gallery” and then at Ferrari Beverly Hills Service Center beginning with a 10K service at 6,618 miles, followed by three further annual services at authorized Ferrari Beverly Hills Service Center in 2010 with 8,387 miles, 2011 with 8,952 miles and 2013 with 10,283. Service invoices accompanying the car indicate annual prescribed service intervals to change all engine fluids, coolant, brake fluid, and filter changes. The first timing belt service was performed at 8,952 miles (2011). A new left window power regulator installed in 2013 along with brake and suspension inspections performed per recommended annual services.
In 2015, the current owner purchased the car with 12,025 miles as indicated on the clean California title. Before finalizing the purchase, a detailed pre-purchase inspection was conducted by specialists at San Francisco Ferrari, resulting in a favorable assessment. After purchase, a timing belt service was performed by Geoff Provo at GP Enterprises which included a photographic record of service including removing and replacing all cam seals and cam cover gaskets, all fluids exchanged, a new cam crossover breather pipe, and a compression test with the following numbers recorded on the service invoice:
1-195, 2-205, 3-195, 4-190, 5-195, 6-200, 7-190, 8-190
Also in 2015, the current owner elected to replace the formerly fitted aftermarket Capristo muffler with a correct 360 muffler. Services continued in 2018 with fluid exchanges at 18,367 miles (2018), a new water pump with upgraded hose clamps, new right side sway bar link, and flush/bleed for the brake and clutch fluids. In 2022, with 20,800 miles, a set of Pirelli P Zero tires were installed, new front brake pads installed, annual service performed, coolant system flushed, cabin filters replaced, and clutch/brake fluids flushed and bled with clutch adjustment.

Cosmetic Overview
Presenting in excellent condition, the condition, owner care, and rare 6-speed transmission deliver an ideal combination for a Ferrari enthusiast. The exterior finish is glossy, smooth, and beautifully preserved. The captivating and vibrant Giallo Modena finish is one of the best colors on the Modena design. The body panels have been metered with a digital paint meter indicating lower single digits on all metal body’s surfaces indicative of original factory paint. The sloping windshield, see-through engine cover, race inspired features, and stunning profile create a dramatic and memorable appearance to this beautiful Modena. The glass, lighting, and lenses are in excellent condition as are the emblems and Ferrari script. The body panels display excellent fit throughout with tight closures including the front and rear bumper caps which are smoothly fit to the body lines. The inner surfaces and door jambs are clean and well-maintained, also retaining factory finishes. The silver finished wheels are in excellent condition with ample tread remaining on all four Pirelli tires installed in 2022. Matching yellow brake calipers are mounted to the large, ventilated disc brakes, visible through the open spoked wheels.
The interior of the car is especially nice. The black leather seats are supple and smooth with excellent surfacing, fine yellow color accent stitching, and no marks of note. Even the typically worn driver’s side seat bolster is in excellent condition. The dashboard, instruments, and switches are all in near new condition, having benefited from professional services and careful ownership. Typical of Ferrari buttons and switches known to develop chemical stickiness due to a manufacturing flaw, the switches on this car are in excellent condition and have been professionally corrected. The steering wheel, dash pad, and instrument cluster are free of notable wear and remain in excellent condition. All other interior surfaces including the center console, door panels, visors, and A-pillars are exemplary in presentation. The center console features the rare and highly coveted 6-speed gated manual gearbox with alloy shifter, providing a historical link to competition cars and road going Ferraris. Gated 6-speed manual examples have become increasingly rare in number and are now well-established in the collector car market. The inner liner for the front trunk compartment is in excellent condition including the leather straps which hold the unused tool and jack kit in place. The front storage area maintains factory correct finishes and features consistent with the exterior visual presentation.
Under the hood, the innovative mid-engine V8 has been properly maintained with excellent factory castings, correct air intake housings, and original accessory equipment as delivered. Ferrari number plates, factory installation stickers, and verification markings are in place, all of which remain in excellent condition. The engine and engine compartment are clean and correct featuring textured red cast-alloy engine intake plenums and properly finished structural components. The underside of the car shows only minimal signs of use with just a few minor scuff marks typically found on the aerodynamic panels that divert airflow to various areas of the car. There is no evidence of structural compromise to the chassis or any of the suspension components.
The car starts, drives, and shifts smoothly in all gears. The manual gearbox is perfectly positioned and there is ample comfort in the cockpit even for larger frame drivers. Power delivery is sharp and exhilarating from the near 400 hp engine. Though newer cars boast higher horsepower ratings, the 360 6-speed manual combination delivers an ideal blend of power to joy ratio when driving. Road manners are comfortable under general conditions, but when prompted, deliver delightful launches up to highway speeds and ear to ear grins when carving mountain roads. The Modena delivers superb braking and handling which is no surprise given these cars were derived and developed by leaders in Formula 1 technology.
This Ferrari 360 Modena is a wonderful example of one of the most important and ground-breaking modern Ferraris ever produced. Known history since new, consistent service/maintenance records, and low miles further validate the excellence of this pristine and capable Modena. The beautiful leather interior, 6-speed manual gearbox, and mid-engine design make this Ferrari a compelling and dynamic pairing, delivering power and excitement for the next fortunate collector enthusiast.
