The Type R variant of the NSX was introduced in 1992 as a track-oriented version exclusively for the Japanese market with several amenities eliminated in favor of a claimed weight savings of approximately 265 pounds. Exterior features distinct to the NSX-R model include mesh grilles integrated into the front air inlets and a red Honda nose badge. The Honda NSX Type R is a lightweight version of the marque’s acclaimed 1990s sports car, presented in superb condition throughout and representing the genesis point of the storied ‘Type R’ nameplate. Under the engine lid is a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6, producing around 270bhp and 210lb-ft, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. To create the Type R, engineers took a standard coupe and set about a program of significant weight reduction. The sound-deadening material was removed, along with the traction control, motorized leather seats, and the original wheels. In their place, lightweight carbon-kevlar bucket seats were fitted, trimmed in red suede cloth, along with Enkei forged alloy wheels to reduce unsprung mass. The electric windows were retained, along with the forward and back electric seat control, while the gear knob was hewn from titanium. #252 Chassis 252 was acquired from the original Japanese owner and subsequently imported into the United States in December 2022.
