There are exceptional Escort Cosworth’s, and then there are cars such as this. Registered new in 1992, this remarkable Ford Escort RS Cosworth has had just one owner from new and has covered an astonishing 20,000 miles. Finished in the iconic combination of Diamond White with its original grey leather Recaro interior, it represents one of the finest surviving examples of Ford’s legendary homologation special. Presented in genuine concours condition throughout, this is an Escort Cosworth that has clearly been cherished from the day it left the supplying Ford dealership. Every panel, trim piece and interior surface reflects its exceptionally careful ownership, creating an experience that feels remarkably close to stepping into a Ford showroom in 1992. Perhaps most impressive is the extraordinary history file that accompanies the car, which contains the original owner’s manuals and service literature, together with the Ford Customer Service Record Assurance Certificate supplied on delivery. A fascinating collection of original tax discs charts the car’s life through the decades, while both factory immobilisers, the original locking wheel nut and numerous factory accessories remain with the vehicle. Even details that rarely survive have been preserved, including the original, unopened Ford screen wash bottle, still stored in the boot exactly as supplied when new—a wonderful illustration of just how carefully this Cosworth has been kept. Mechanically, this is one of the highly desirable early production Escort RS Cosworth’s, identifiable by its distinctive blue cam cover and the legendary Garrett T3 turbocharger. These early cars are revered by enthusiasts as the purest specification, offering immense tuning potential—many examples have been developed to produce well in excess of 400bhp. This car, however, has never followed that route. Instead, it remains exactly as Ford intended, retaining its original factory specification and delivering the authentic driving experience that made the Escort Cosworth one of the defining performance cars of the 1990s. Finding an Escort Cosworth is not difficult, but finding a one owner, 20,000 genuine miles example with this level of originality and such extraordinary preservation is exceptionally difficult, and almost impossible. This is quite simply a collector-grade example that would grace the finest Ford or performance car collection, while remaining every bit as exciting to drive as it was over thirty years ago.
