The BMW M3 Sport Evolution is a homologation masterpiece forged in the fires of German motorsport. It is the ultimate development of BMW’s E30-generation M3, itself an earlier special of 5,000 units executed in 1987 for Group A homologation requirements. During the interceding race season, FIA regulations lowered homologation quotas to just 500 chassis, and thus the M3 Sport Evolution was born (encompassing 100 race customer chassis and 500 production chassis; 600 were made in total). The bonnet, roof, and door cards are the sole standard E30-generation components presented by the Sport Evolution’s composite bodywork. A set of boxed wheel arches were implemented to incorporate wider wheels and, in turn, larger brakes. This was underpinned by a race-revised multilink suspension featuring stiffer springs and thickened roll bars. A limited-slip differential is linked to a five-speed close-ratio Getrag transmission; European models, such as this example, received a “dogleg” pattern while Japanese and export orders were fitted with an “H”-pattern configuration. In Sport Evolution trim, the M3’s “S14” dual-overhead-camshaft inline-four-cylinder engine received a more aggressive crankshaft, revised valves, and a ported exhaust manifold, bumping displacement to 2.5 litres and peak performance to 235 horsepower. The example offered here was delivered new to Hamburg via the German dealer BMW Niederlassung. Per the accompanying Birth Certificate issued by BMW Classic in June 2024, the M3 was completed by the factory on 20 February 1990 wearing Black paintwork and a Black leather interior. The M3 Sport Evolution was specified with special equipment including a sliding roof, electric front windows, and air conditioning. The BMW is believed to have been exported from Germany to Asia around the early 2000s, where it was acquired by the consigning owner around 10 years ago. With them, the M3 returned to Europe via the United Kingdom and was registered with the DVLA in July 2024. Upon being imported to the UK, the M3 Sport Evolution was entrusted to the highly respected BMW specialist Munich Legends for a major service and preparation works to ready the car for road use (invoice available to view on file). In July 2025, the car was further inspected, serviced, and carefully recommissioned by Everything M3s, the renowned BMW M Power specialist founded by a former Formula One engineer and widely regarded as one of the leading names within the BMW M community. Today, the car’s condition reflects its remarkably low indicated mileage of just 4,503 kilometres, further reinforced by the attention and expertise of both Munich Legends and Everything M3s. Now offered for sale for the first time in over a decade, this M3 Sport Evolution presents an incredibly rare opportunity to purchase one of the lowest-mileage examples offered to the open market. With only 600 ever produced, this matching-numbers factory Black over Black M3 Sport Evolution presents as an exciting and rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
