For many, the automobile is an extension of personal style, the final layer of attire worn to greet the world. It is only fitting then, that iconic luxury brands have long lent their services in crafting some of the world’s most extraordinary automobiles, including the highly exclusive 1980s partnership between Ferrari and Italian fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna. Renowned for their stringent selection of the finest wool and leather, Zegna was a natural choice to contribute to the creation of tailored Ferraris. Chassis 44993 is believed to be one of as few as 27 examples with an interior crafted by Zegna, featuring a stunning white over cream leather livery with red wool inserts on the seats and door cards, partnered with equally luxurious deep red carpets. A factory air conditioning system and Pioneer stereo system with a proprietary equalizer heighten this truly exceptional specification. Said to have lived a life of modest use across a short chain of owners, in 2016, this BBi reportedly received a cosmetic restoration in its factory finishes before being exhibited at the 2017 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. In 2018, invoices show 44993 was treated to a nearly $12,000 engine-out belt service by Foreign Cars Italia of Greensboro, North Carolina. Upon acquisition, the consignor commissioned a comprehensive sorting by several marque specialists including GT Motor Cars of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Fast Cars Ltd. of Redondo Beach, California. Invoices on file show the work included new tires, clutch, and exhaust, along with fuel and ignition tuning, a full recommissioning of the suspension system, and a thorough mechanical inspection, with various bushings, seals, and gaskets replaced as necessary. All told, the car wears over $53,000 in fresh service work and is accompanied by a tool kit and collection of owner’s manuals. Comprehensively sorted and exquisitely tailored by a prestigious Italian fashion house, this 512 BBi presents a particularly captivating opportunity for cognoscenti seeking to make a statement of distinction at their next concours gathering.
