The 246 GT and GTS models built on the foundations laid by the earlier 206 GT and addressed calls from customers who were hungry for an extra edge of signature Ferrari performance. The coupé-shaped 246 GT launched in 1969, followed by the Targa-top Gran Turismo Spider in 1972. Both cars shared a 2.4-litre V-6 “Dino” engine, good for 195 horsepower and with a factory-backed top speed of 146 mph. The production run of the Dino 246 GTS peaked at 1,274 units, making it a rare and collectable car today, with just 235 of those made in right-hand drive. Only two of those right-hand-drive cars left the factory with Grigio Ferro metallic paintwork, as is the case with the example offered here. Per the accompanying copies of this car’s original order forms, this Dino was brought to the United Kingdom by renowned Ferrari importer Maranello Concessionaires Ltd. Chassis number 06874 was one of just 35 examples of the Dino 246 GTS to leave the factory with Grigio Ferro metallic paintwork, and one of only two delivered to the UK. Suitably configured in right-hand drive, the 246 GTS was also specified with power windows, Cromodora wheels, and instruments reading in miles. The car was marked completed by the factory on 17 July 1973 and delivered to the Egham-based importer in September. By the following month, the Dino had been sold to its first private owner, William Shand Kydd, an amateur jockey, socialite, and brother to Peter, who was once stepfather to HRH Diana, Princess of Wales. The Ferrari was sold in 1975, once more in 1976, again in 1980, 1983, then later acquired by Dino-specialist restorer Nick Cartwright in 1994, at that point being subject to a full repaint. Transacted once thereafter, the Ferrari stayed as part of a marque collection from 1994 until 2019, with the car staying in England while the owner lived overseas. In 2019, the Dino returned to Nick Cartwright Specialist Cars to rectify minor issues accumulated while the car was being used sparingly (full invoice available to view on file). Since the consigning owner acquired the Dino in August 2020, it has been maintained by Stratstone Colchester, the main Ferrari dealer and workshop, with the most recent service performed in September 2025. Now offered for sale again in its rare factory-correct colourway, this well-documented and maintained Dino 246 GTS awaits its next owner for open-top adventures in the summer months ahead.
