This stunning Ford Cortina GT Mk1, a rare left-hand drive Swiss-market example, is a beautifully prepared 1960s classic that competed in the prestigious 2023 Monte Carlo Historic Rally. Meticulously upgraded this car is ready for historic rallying or spirited road use. It is powered by an inline-four engine, bored to 1,561cc and fitted with Weber carburettors for enhanced performance, driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox with Quaife internals and a Titan locking differential for superior handling. Acquired in March 2020 after long-term storage in Switzerland, it was imported to the UK and registered in January 2023. The car was extensively upgraded by Nine-W Race Engineering in Stockbridge, Hampshire, with over £40,000 invested in technical enhancements for rally performance. Having competed in the 2023 Monte Carlo Historic Rally and a few minor events, it has been driven sparingly since. Finished in striking Monaco Red paintwork with gold highlights, it pays homage to John Whitmore’s 1965 ETCC racecar and features an eye-catching airbrushed engine decal on the bonnet. The car rides on eight-spoke Minilite wheels fitted with Avon Turbospeed CR28 tyres. The black vinyl-trimmed cabin includes a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, red seatbelts, an analogue clock, and two USB ports for modern convenience. This Cortina combines classic style with rally-ready performance, making it a standout choice for collectors, enthusiasts, or historic rally competitors.
