The 250 GT Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most elegant and timeless designs by Pininfarina. Introduced in 1962 the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso was Ferrari's latest intermediate model, a vehicle to bridge the gap between competition racers and luxuriously appointed 2+2 Coupe's. Just 351 examples were built between 1963 and late 64. Widely regarded as the epitome of the "La Dolce Vita" few cars can rival the effortless elegance and style of a 250 GT Lusso. The car is the very last of the 22 Right Hand Drive examples supllied to the U.K. via Maranello Concessionaires, of which only 19 Remain. It was supplied new to a fascinating character called William (Bill) Shand Kydd. From a privileged upbringing, Kydd would embark on series of eccentric and varied accomplishments. In his time, he raced powerboats, competed as a jockey in the 1966 Grand National, won the National Chase Hunt in 1973 as well as taking part in the Cresta run in St Moritz (where he met Lord Lucan); he was in fact, believed to be the last person to see Lord Lucan alive! Kydd also took the time to compete in a number of hill climb events in this very Lusso in the late sixties through to the early 1970s, before selling in 1972 to John Chatwin covering almost 60,000 miles in 8 years. Its next famous owner came in 1978 when the car was purchased by Richard Attwood – a former Formula One Driver and famous Le Mans Winner when driving for Porsche in the 917. Attwood achieved his longest professional relationship however with David Piper, competing in a number of green Ferraris, notably the 250 LM and the 330 P3/4. Attwood then sold the car to Dr Harvey Postlethwaite in 1987. Postlethwaite made his name throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s as principally as the engineer behind Hesketh & James Hunt’s successes, subsequently Enzo’s hand-selected chassis engineer at Ferrari, and later, technical director for Tyrell and then Sauber. Postlethwaite would cherish the car as his absolute pride and joy and in 1993 commissioned a total restoration with Maranello Concessionaires. Following this restoration, he used the car only very sparingly and often showed the car at various Ferrari Owners Club Concours. He passed away in 1999 at which point his wife and children decided to keep the car. Despite numerous attempts to purchase the car over the years, the family would retain the car until 2015, when they sold the car off-market. All of this incredible and unrepeatable history is detailed and recorded in two very comprehensive history files, which include even the original factory-build documents and the original invoice for the new car to William Shand Kydd. Despite spending much of its life resprayed in Rosso, the car has recently been returned to its fabulous, original Blu Chiaro hue.
