Description

In its final year, the Aurelia B20 had matured into an exemplary grand touring car. While peak power had been reduced for the sixth series GT, its 2.5-litre, Jano-designed V-6 made 112 brake horsepower from a single Weber 40 DCL 5 carburettor. Braking was at its most advanced: its large drums were close in specification to that of the forthcoming Flaminia. The model featured greater sound deadening, quarter-vent windows, and improved rear leaf-springs suspension to make the final year Aurelia a more luxurious and comfortable car than previous model GTs. According to the Lancia historian Wim Oude Weernink, this car was built 31 cars before the end of Aurelia production. Leaving the factory on 8 May 1958, this Aurelia B20 was finished in Nero over a Panno beige interior. The Lancia is noted to have appeared at the 1958 Salone dell’automobile di Torino, and while its subsequent history is not documented, by the 1990s the car had a succession of Italian owners. The Aurelia is offered for sale with Automotoclub Storico Italian (ASI) and Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) identity cards both issued in 1996. Presented today in its factory-correct colour scheme of Nero over Panno beige, this Aurelia has been found to retain its matching-numbers engine and front axle. It is further accompanied by a Lancia Classiche Certificate of Origin. As the very first example of any car series is valued, so must the last-of-the-line models. This late-production Aurelia, built at the end of a fabulous motorsport legacy enjoyed by Hawthorn, Behra, and Fangio, has much to offer in preservation.
