- 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO 3
THE GTO RETURNS By 1984, the words “Gran Turismo Omologata” carried enormous weight in the Ferrari world. Since 1962, the 250 GTO had been considered the finest sports racer that Ferrari had ever produced. With an astonishing racing record—rivalled only by its sensational driving dynamics—the GTO was cemented into sports car lore as nothing short of a legend. For Ferrari to revive such a legendary moniker, any new GTO would be expected to match or surpass the 250’s incredible record in motorsport. Seeking to contend in the notorious FIA Group B, Ferrari developed and produced the GTO to homologate the model for competition within that series; this called for a production run of 200 cars. Group B was incredibly popular following its introduction in the 1980s, especially in Europe, and Ferrari was eager to jump into the fray—and Maranello was certain that its car would be unmatched in competition. However, Group B was canceled shortly thereafter, leaving the factory with a fully developed and homologated car but no series in which to compete. It was clear that the public was eager to experience Ferrari’s newest no-compromises supercar, and the GTO was certainly not going to disappoint the brand’s fans or customers—even without a spot on the grid. While it shared visual cues with the 308 and 328, there was no denying that the 288 GTO (as it was later dubbed) was more special than its siblings. Visually it held a more aggressive stance, with composite and Kevlar forming the majority of the bodywork. The doors and deck lid were formed from lightweight aluminum, with an imposing shape that hinted at its prodigious performance. The race-bred 2.8-liter V-8 engine with its twin IHI turbochargers pumped out a monstrous 400 horsepower and 366 pound-feet of torque. The 288 GTO could rocket to a top speed of 189 mph, making it the fastest road car ever produced at the time of its unveiling. Its acceleration was equally impressive, and the car could reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds and 100 mph in 10.2—fast enough to keep everything short of a fighter jet in its rearview mirror. Performance aside, the GTO’s interior was graced with a host of modern amenities. The Kevlar-framed bucket seats were lined in leather, and buyers could request air conditioning, electric windows, and an AM/FM radio/cassette stereo as optional extras. Other than those few comforts, the GTO offered nothing to distract the driver from the task at hand. The new GTO clearly resonated with Ferrari’s clientele, as 272 examples were built by the time production ceased (which was over 25 per cent more than the amount required for FIA Group B homologation). The GTO was the first in the lineage of modern Ferrari supercars, and it remains incredibly rare, seldom seen on the road and even less frequently offered for public sale. CHASSIS NUMBER 56773 The example on offer, chassis 56773, is one of the 272 Ferrari 288 GTOs built from 1984 to 1985. It left the factory on 3 May 1985, finished in Rosso Corsa, with the cabin upholstered in black leather; its “Daytona”-style seats featured optional red cloth inserts. Destined for the United States, chassis 56773 was equipped with air-conditioning and power windows but without a radio, a nod to the racing DNA of the model. Following the federalization process carried out by the North American Ferrari agent, the car successfully arrived in Illinois at the supplying dealer, Lake Forest Sportscars. There, this 288 GTO was sold new to its first owner, Donald Schaff, who resided in Florida. Per the accompanying Ferrari Warranty Card, Mr. Schaff took delivery of his new car on 10 June 1985. Chassis 56773 led a quiet early life and by August 1991 was offered for sale by Walnut Creek Ferrari in California, where the odometer reading was noted as 3,388 km. By 1993 chassis 56773 had changed hands and is mentioned by the Ferrari expert Marcel Massini in his report as being sold in April to Cavallino Imports of Dixie Hills, New York. This 288 GTO then entered the possession of the third owner, Mr. Dennis Farrey of Dani Investments in San Carlos, California sometime in 1996. Farrey retained chassis 56773 for four years, before offering the car for sale in the Ferrari Market Letter on 8 April 2000, stating the odometer reading was 4,517 km. The car was subsequently sold to the fourth owner in 2001. Under this ownership the car experienced regular service attention with corresponding mileage documentation. Detailed invoices are available on file, with a major service completed on 31 July 2020. More than $18,000 was spent at Continental Auto Sports in Hinsdale, Illinois as all the fluids were drained and replaced, while at the same time, a cambelt service was carried out, and a new water pump and spark plugs installed. The final task completed was having a set of four new Pirelli P Zero tires mounted to the wheels, with the invoice noting that chassis 56773 had covered 7,815 km at the point of service. Chassis 56773’s most recent service took place at Continental Auto Sports on 31 January 2022, comprising an oil and brake fluid change and replacement of the oil pressure gauge sensor. Importantly, at this time 56773 has earned its Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming it to be a full matching-numbers example, speaking to its well-preserved and factory-correct state. During the car’s original federalization, the speedometer face was converted to display in miles, however, the odometer calibration remained in kilometers. As a required component of the Classiche Certification process, a speedometer unit with the correct kilometer-indicating face was sourced and fitted; as noted on the 22 August 2022 Continental Auto Sports invoice on file. Displaying just 7,989 km (~4,965 miles) at the time of cataloguing, this 1985 288 GTO represents an extremely rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a premium example of one of Ferrari’s most desirable road cars. Rarely does the chance to obtain such a fine example of a North American delivered 288 GTO avail. Covering all desired attributes, including Ferrari Classiche certification, well-documented provenance, regular no-expense-spared service history, along with original books and tool kit, 56773 is without doubt one of the finest offerings of a Ferrari 288 GTO in recent times. 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750
General History Enjoying increased success in the new line of GT cars that evolved in the early 60s, Alfa Romeo released the first series 105/115 series coupes in 1963. Spanning a prolific 14 years in production, the model run remained largely unchanged due in part to the remarkably clean and sporting Giugiaro penned body design. As iterations unfolded, a range of engines evolved leading up to the SPICA fuel-injected 1750 GTV (Veloce) which was offered for US delivery examples. The potent 1,779cc engine was a fantastic pairing for the 5-speed manual gearbox which, along with revised suspension geometry and an anti-roll bar fitted to the rear suspension, made for great road manners. Larger front disc brakes and calipers were also installed. These notable improvements made for a better handling car overall but also invited spirited highway driving making the GTV a more refined and versatile GT car as it entered the new decade. General Overview This example was purchased by the current and consigning owner in 2013. Service records accompanying the car date back to 1992 when the car was located in San Rafael, CA. According to information from the prior owner, the car had been in California for several years prior to the early 1990s. A 1992 service record includes an engine overhaul and clutch replacement, performed at 132,197 miles, along with front and rear brake work that same year. Service invoices continue through the 1990s and 2000s under the same ownership until it was purchased by the current owner in 2013. The car has been in the collection of a known Northern California Alfa Romeo collector and enthusiast for the past eleven years where it has been serviced regularly as part of their enjoyable use for various events and vintage car tours including the Motherlode 400 (six times) and the California Melee. Under current ownership service invoices outline regular oil and filter changes, fluid flushes, and general services were performed including the front seats professionally reupholstered by Franzini Bros. Inc. (2013) and in 2014 a new brake booster, driveline flex joint and 2 U-joints installed, front end suspension rebuilt, rear trailing arms rebuilt, new fuel lines installed, radiator re-core, new muffler and exhaust hangers installed, and valves adjusted. In 2016 new brake boosters and brake booster hoses were installed, new cone bushings in 2017, and in 2021 new transmission, motor mounts, and new shocks were installed, and all fluids flushed and filled. General Condition Today this Alfa Romeo offers handsome cosmetics including older fine flake paint that has been well maintained showing good gloss and consistent cosmetic finish. Minor door edge chips are evident, a few minor dings in the rear bumper, minor rock chips in a few areas, but otherwise, the exterior finish is ideal for enjoyable driving and local shows. The trim is in very good condition overall including the grille, which is very nice and properly fitted along with the headlights and front fascia trim. The lenses, lighting, bumpers, and various trim and script are in very good condition contributing to the overall cohesive visual presentation. The panel gaps are consistent showing good closures and tight fit, even for both doors which show good part lines. The floating hood, often lacking proper fit, sits flush and latches correctly. The glass is in very good condition with brand etching that appears consistent with original factory installation for the side, rear, and vent glass. Outfitted with later series Cromodora wheels, car wears a set of Vredestein 165/HR14 Sprint Classic tires with ample tread remaining. The interior features nicely finished black bucket seats which have been previously recovered and have a high-quality look and feel to the material and pleating as well as the correct woven center material matching the rear seat area. The overall interior presents very well with most of the interior surfaces appearing in very good condition, reflecting a satisfying blend of refinished items and original features. The door panels, various chrome trim, and side panels have a very high-quality feel to the finishes, and the carpeting appears to be more recently replaced, here too with high quality and correct type materials. The dashboard is quite nice, featuring clean and nicely detailed instruments with excellent color and contrast and smooth wood-toned inserts for the dash and center console. The black dash padding is in very good condition fronted by a sporty black padded Alfa Romeo branded steering wheel. A Nakamichi stereo with CD player is installed in the dash along with door speakers and matching black grilles. The trunk is clean and well-maintained. Under the trunk matting, a full-sized stamped steel spare tire is in place. Under the hood, the engine bay delivers a correct presentation reflective of original specifications. Though not detailed for show presentation, the engine appears largely correct in componentry and detail with a proper SPICA airbox, stain black cam cover, and various details consistent with Alfa Romeo manufacturing during this period. Overall, the engine compartment displays finishes that are typical of cars that have been driven and enjoyed, regularly serviced but not prepared for show. The undercarriage is representative of an unrestored example. Selected metal suspension components and chassis floor pans display typical surface aging as often found on unrestored cars, none of which offers any indication of structural compromise or damage to the chassis floor. The car is fitted with new shock absorbers, a correct-type exhaust system, and a handful of various newer soft lines. Correct aluminum casting pans and transmission casings, and other correct parts and components for this series car finish off the chassis. The car starts, stops, runs, and drives very capably as evidenced in the driving video accompanying the photos in the gallery. The gearbox operates properly, the clutch takes up nicely, and the brakes bring the car down smoothly and evenly on a firm pedal. Acceleration is progressive from the SPICA outfitted engine offering a balanced feel especially notable in the improved suspension offered in these later series cars. 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright General History Enjoying increased success in the new line of GT cars that evolved in the early 60s, Alfa Romeo released the first series 105/115 series coupes in 1963. - 1966 Porsche 911 R
This beautiful and uncompromising Porsche 911 R has been perfectly rebuilt to R specifications on an original 1966 911 S chassis without any ifs or buts. The engine has been recently rebuilt to the highest standard by very well known Swiss Porsche specialists. Likewise, the transmission was completely revised / rebuilt. The car offers a sensational power-to-weight ratio with a curb weight of only 800 kgs and a measured 238 hp. The 911 R offered here was delivered by AMAG, Xavier Perrot, has FiA papers, a FIVA Identity Card and is veteran-approved. The period correct seats (see photo) are of course included with the car. The 1967 Porsche 911 R was the lightest 911 of all time and laid the foundation for its sporting success. The Porsche 911 made its racing debut shortly after the start of production in 1965 at the Monte Carlo Rally. With an even faster sports version of the 160 hp Porsche 911 S, a class victory was achieved at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 and the European Rally Championship was won. Thus, the development of new, even more powerful racing versions was a high priority. The focus was on reducing the weight of the 911 S. The hood, doors and fenders were replaced by fiberglass, the windows by Plexiglas. The underbody and many other metal parts were simply pierced with holes. The cockpit was also reduced to the bare minimum and the sound insulation removed. The diet had truly paid off: Instead of the approximately 1,030 kg of a standard Porsche 911 S, the lightweight 911 weighed in at only 800 kg! To this day, the Porsche 911 R is considered the lightest 911 of all time. For faster cornering speeds, the lightweight 911 was fitted with thicker tires and a wider rear end. The engine chosen was the 210 hp Type 901/22 aluminum six-cylinder, which was also used in a similar form in the Porsche 906 and 910 race cars. Experiments were also conducted with the 230-hp, even higher-revving Type 916 racing engine. One of the first racing drivers to try out the new Porsche 911 R was Huschke von Hanstein. The Mille Miglia and Targa Florio winner was thrilled and pushed for homologation for GT racing. But the sales department in Zuffenhausen was less optimistic: they didn’t have the confidence to sell the 500 units needed for homologation. So production of the series model at the Stuttgart company Baur was discontinued after only 19 examples. Just how great the potential of a purist racing 911 really was was demonstrated in October 1967. Jo Siffert and his Swiss teammates had traveled to Monza together to break the high-speed world records set by Ford and Toyota. But their Porsche 906 was not suited to the bumpy Italian track; shortly after the start, the suspension went. A Porsche 911 R from the Baur small series was used as a replacement car. In fact, the Swiss set five new endurance world records with the racing 911 – including the distance of 20,000 kilometers. However, this was not quite the end of the Porsche 911 R’s history: When the Tour de France Automobile was opened up to prototypes in 1969, Gérard Larrousse started with the lightweight 911-and won. He also triumphed in the Tour de Corse shortly afterwards with the same car. 1966 Porsche 911 R Lutziger Classic Cars AG If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. The notice and take down procedure is described here: https://www.speedholics.com/copyright This beautiful and uncompromising Porsche 911 R has been perfectly rebuilt to R specifications on an original 1966 911 S chassis without any ifs or buts. - 1949 Maserati A6 1500 Coupe
Founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1914, by Alfieri Maserati and his brothers Ettore and Ernesto, their humble skills were first offered as specialists for Isotta Fraschini, preparing their cars for road races. However, it was soon evident that Maserati was destined to build the Maserati name crafting their own racecars. The Maserati brothers were not only dedicated enthusiasts, but they were also passionate artisans and engineers – a necessary combination in order to yield fantastic performance cars, especially for premier clientele. This blend of art and engineering, a feature of Italian culture, is embodied in much of their fashion, food, and music, as well as in the fast-growing world of automobile manufacturing. Soon after inception, Maserati was building some of the finest racecars and many of the finest road cars. The often-underfunded company also competed handsomely against giants of industry, building Grand Prix cars, and winning world racing titles, including a rare win at the Indy 500. After the second world war, Maserati was not only able to survive, but they realized their future was dependent on building cars with an emphasis on dual-purpose – cars capable of top-level performance, and also beautifully appointed for street use. As technology improved and wealthy customers demanded both performance and luxury, Maserati enjoyed a robust following in both motorsports and on the showroom floor. The first of these road models was the A6 1500, which made its debut at the 1947 Geneva Salon. Upon review by the press, the beautifully crafted light-alloy Pinin Farina body was lauded by many to be among the most beautiful cars ever designed. In addition to the beauty, the A6 1500 was also innovative in that it was among the first to feature a smooth, integrated hood and fender design, leading back to a dramatic clean fastback rear with minimal chrome trim, hidden door handles, and a wide but delicately trimmed grill. All of these ideas are considered classic today, but in 1947, this design was truly revolutionary. Under the hood, engineering followed the path of excellence, where the remarkable 1,488cc single overhead-camshaft six-cylinder engine utilized aluminum and magnesium castings along with a single Weber carburetor, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. The ladder frame chassis featured double wishbone front suspension, similar to Maserati racecars, while the coil-sprung live-axle rear suspension balanced out the rear drive platform, yielding a lovely combination of performance and grace; a union that would herald many future Maseratis for years to come. This beautiful A6 1500 is chassis number 059, the ninth car of just 61 cars in the series produced from 1947-1951 and the only Pinin Farina Berlinetta assembled at the factory on a long wheelbase chassis. Although all the cars constructed in this series would be assembled on a standard chassis, and a long wheelbase chassis had been used in two cabriolet versions of the A6 1500 (chassis number 057 and 075), this is the only Pinin Farina Berlinetta known to have been constructed on a long wheel base chassis. Delivered new in July 1949, the car was configured at the factory with Berlinetta coachwork and finished in dark red Amaterro color. 059 has been researched and documented by renowned Maserati historian Adolfo Orsi. Mr. Orsi confirms the first owner as Mr. Americo Giol, a resident of San Polo di Piave, Italy. Though the duration of his ownership has yet to be confirmed by further registrations, it is known that his brother must have been duly impressed as Vittirio Giol soon became the first owner of chassis no. 078, also a Pinin Farina Berlinetta, constructed later in the series production. Orsi further notes that the car was next imported to the US and then to the UK sometime in the 1970s, eventually returning to Italy in 1993. By the late 90s, the car is known to have been sympathetically restored and subsequently purchased in 2000 by a Japanese collector. In 2003 this A6 1500 was entered and participated in the legendary Mille Miglia event, La Festa Mille Miglia. By 2010, this A6 1500 finds a new owner who then offers it on auction in 2015 at the Quail Lodge during the famed Carmel weekend and concours events. The current owner has continued to maintain the car to high standards, including recent detailed review and mechanical sorting by Epifani restorations. Today this wonderful car truly presents the elegance of design and engineering that have defined Maseratis. It is important to recall that this car was well ahead of Ferrari in every aspect as Maserati was already in production with the A6 1500 while Ferrari was simply a fledgling venture. Here in every respect the level individualized artistry and performance can be seen in the coachwork and mechanical specifications, further affirming Maserati as leaders of Italian craftsmanship, and pioneers of modern design and engineering. The older restoration while still very handsome has mellowed nicely in the ensuing years, and is both a testimony to the quality and the degree of preservation first offered as an original matching numbers car prior to restoration, but also to upholding the finest in restoration artisanship even in recent years. The exterior of this A6 has been finished to a high level still showing excellent paint and panel fit. The paint has settled in a bit over the years but still retains a high gloss throughout, with minor surface scratches and light marks from road use. Doors open and shut smoothly, as does the hood and trunk. Brightwork throughout the exterior has been polished and finely detailed to complement the deep red paint. Handsome design elements lightly decorate the exterior including beautifully sculpted recessed door handles, elegantly shaped grille and vent details, and exquisite headlight trim that brightens the fascia while elongating the gently sweeping fender lines. The clean lines of the dark red body are contrasted by the purposeful body colored solid wheels, accented with brightwork trim and center caps embossed with the Maserati name. Both front fenders beautifully stretch forward of the cowl in the one-of-a-kind long wheelbase configuration, proudly flanked by the Pinin Farina coachbuilder’s badge. Even the delicately garnished glass elegantly contributes to the perfect proportions of this dynamic car. The bold and elegant exterior is further enhanced by the art-deco influenced interior. Opening the door via the lever actuated flush door handle, the large door swings away offering easy ingress into the comfortable seats. Once inside, the expansive glass and light pillar work offer exceptional views around the entire perimeter of the car. The door panels and seats are covered in contrasting tan corded fabric accented by red piping and deep red carpeting. Matching body colored interior trim with elegant deco-inspired chrome handles and dash details further convey the quality of the design. The dashboard is a wonderful display of instrumentation and indicators, highlighted by the steering wheel, itself a work of art. Instruments and some trim are showing signs of patina, but otherwise, the overall visual condition of the dash and instruments is cohesive and refined. Other charming interior features further include a jewel-like ash tray lid, glovebox door clock, and Maserati trident embossed clutch and brake pedals. All components are beautifully designed and faithfully restored, with some of the fabric areas of the rear seat still covered by protective clear plastic. Under the hood, the car presents well, with excellent workmanship and authenticity to the period, all performed to accurate standards on the matching numbers engine. The hoses, fittings, and various components are faithfully restored, but exhibit some signs of age since restoration. The engine compartment generally shows an even patina throughout, still proudly conveying the history and integrity of the original specifications with details like fabric wrapped lacquered wires, a warmly hued carburetor, and gently toned aluminum castings. The underside of the car has been properly restored, and displays evidence of use in keeping with the general condition of a quality older restoration has mellowed over time. The car starts easily and idles smoothly once warmed up. The clutch is easily engaged, and the gearbox is representative of a car of this era. Seating position is good with plenty of room even for taller occupants. There is easy visibility over the long hood and the steering quitee good even at slower speeds. The four-speed gearbox is well suited to the car, while the ride is reasonably good in large part due to the rear coil spring suspension. The long wheelbase adds an extra touch of comfort especially at higher speeds. Given the era of construction, especially when compared with other vehicles of the period, the ride comfort and performance feel far ahead of the competition. The overall driving impression is elegant, spirited, and comfortable, with engaging mechanical sounds and delightful interior features accompanying you through even the most mundane drives. We would however recommend a major mechanical service prior to long distance rally use. This beautifully appointed Maserati A6 1500 is accompanied by a Maserati service manual, and copies of numerous factory documents, early photos and previous registrations as assembled by Maserati expert and premier historian Adolfo Orsi. Early Maseratis rarely come to market, especially those with documented provenance and made in small quantities. In the case of this car, elegance and performance are unified in captivating harmony in a car that would be welcomed for entry in the Mille Miglia Storica, California Mille, and numerous other events as well as top level concours d’Elegances all over the world. This historically significant Maserati is ready for the next fortunate enthusiast to enjoy as a fine example of Italian motoring excellence, exactly as intended when first constructed by Maserati and expertly crafted by Pinin Farina. 1949 Maserati A6 1500 Coupe Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT
Lamborghini’s first production car, the 350 GT, was the brainchild of two of Italy’s most illustrious automotive luminaries. With an engine designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, fresh from Ferrari, and a chassis engineered by Gian Paolo Dallara, the 350 GT needed only Touring’s Superleggera bodywork to be worthy of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s vision. When the production-spec 350 GT debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show in March 1964, it was to great acclaim. In all, it is thought that around 120 examples of the 350 GT were built before the model was succeeded by the 400 GT 2+2 in 1966. This 350 GT was among the special early examples fitted with aluminum bodywork. It is said to be the 12th Lamborghini ever built and first two-seater 350 GT. Sold new to Garage Foitek in Zurich on 15 January 1965, chassis 0114 was finished in Blue Tigullio over a Senape leather interior. In 1974 it was exported to the United States, where it would stay with its next owner for two years. Richard Rechter of Bloomington, Indiana, then acquired the 350 GT, and he would remain its custodian for 43 years, after which the car entered the collection of Jean Guikas. The car received a cosmetic and mechanical overhaul from 2017 to 2019, with invoices on file from Automotive FantomWorks in Norfolk, Virginia totalling nearly $90,000. For driver comfort, the seats were rebuilt, re-covered, and moved rearward by two-and-a-quarter inches. The engine was removed and resealed, and the cylinder heads rebuilt with new guides, seats, timing chains, and valves, with work also carried out on the carburetors and suspension. Acquired by the consignor from the Guikas collection in 2021, the 350 GT has been refurbished to the highest possible standard by the current owner, a longtime Lamborghini collector with Italian roots, whose family has restored various significant Lamborghinis over the years, and which claims to own one of the first Espadas produced, said to have been delivered to them by Ferrucio Lamborghini himself in 1968. In 2022, the consignor shipped the car to Italy to be fully stripped and repainted in its factory-correct color of Blue Tigullio by the same expert craftsmen who do work for Lamborghini Polo Storico, the automaker’s inhouse classic center. Other cosmetic components and details were also refurbished to factory specifications, including the chrome and trunk carpeting. In 2023, marque experts performed further mechanical work to bring the engine up to pristine condition and excellent working order. Service invoices totaling around €73,000 are available for review. Given its rare aluminum bodywork, known history, and superb condition resulting from the obsessive care of its meticulous owners past and present, this stunning 350 GT is undoubtedly among the finest in the world, ready to be fully enjoyed and continually cherished. 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT RM Sotheby's If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1965-maserati-mistral
Though the early history of this car is not currently known, this Maserati Mistral is known to have been titled and registered in Utah in 1981, signed off to the next owner in 1982, and subsequently delivered to a body and paint shop to be refinished in red. By the 1990s this Maserati had languished as unfinished project in long term storage at the auto repair establishment. Eventually the car was sold to Fantasy Junction who obtained parts to bring it to running order and offered it for sale. The current owner purchased this car in 1995 from Fantasy Junction. After his purchase, he began acquiring components and unique Mistral trim parts to begin restoration while concurrently engaging Epifani Restorations to refine the mechanicals. The owner, having restored other Italian cars with Epifani, was familiar with the process as work spanned 2000-2010 recording progress on the numerous invoices supplied by the Epifani team and included with this car. During this period, the owner held a clean California title while maintained annual license and registration with CA plate 3MNN921 spanning 1995-2013. Throughout this period the car was titled, licensed, and registered as AM109056, with the same number also referenced on the Epifani Restorations invoices. In 2014, the current owner recounts that he did not receive his annual CA registration card and thus inquired with the DMV regarding the delay. The CA DMV notified the current owner that his car had been sold in 2012. Explaining that the car was still in his possession and much of a now costly restoration was nearing completion, the DMV assigned an inspector to research the situation. During the investigation, the inspector revealed that another car had been recorded with the DMV as VIN #AM109056. Upon examination of this car, the inspector was unable to locate a confirming VIN stamp on the car in order to conclusively indicate it was AM109056. There had been no reports of theft, no insurance claims with the number, and no irregularities associated with the VIN, so the investigation continued. Referencing the Maserati engine number, the engine number was subsequently correlated and confirmed to have been built at the factory as AM109054. The inspector authorized an original stamped VIN plate, verified the proper installation of the plate and submitted the car for title and registration as AM109054 in 2014. This title and registration have since been retained under the same ownership for the past eleven years. Today this Maserati, the VIN AM109054, DMV authorized VIN plate, the matching engine with factory number, and the CA title remain consistent with Maserati records now documented and verified by the CA DMV. During the period spanning 2000-2011 Epifani restorations performed extensive work on this car including engine work, machining, electrical wiring and switch repair work, brake booster, servo, clutch system work including new slave and master cylinders, new axle hubs and bearings with new brackets and fittings, new front and rear brake calipers, new brake lines, new emergency brake components, fuel system refurbishment including new fuel lines, fuel pump and regulator, electrical window motor rebuild, new wiring, new radiator hoses, new breather tubes, new coil wires, new distributor rotor, new spark plug wires and plugs, seat belts installed, dash removed for wiring repairs and gauge services, to name just a few of the many detailed items serviced, repaired, or replaced on this car. Epifani Restorations receipts total more than $50k not including the cost of specialized parts procured by the owner. Condition Overview Today, this Maserati presents as a handsome example ideal for further restoration or to enjoy as is. An excellent candidate for local shows and tours, the finishes and mechanical performance are appropriate for enthusiasts who enjoy driving and taking on various mechanical tasks as needed or gradually improving cosmetics to suit their tastes. Finished in vivid red, the paint is glossy and smooth though shows signs of age consistent with application in the 1990s. There are several small circular “fisheyes” in the paint (approx. 1/6” diameter) on the front surfaces which are visible when viewed closely. The panel fit and closures are generally very good, including the doors which open and close properly, though the rear hatch opens and latches, but the panel gaps are not symmetrical. Unlike many Mistrals, the front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition and fit properly to the front and rear of the car. The glass is in excellent condition as are the delicate chrome trim window surrounds, door handles, rocker trim, and amber side marker lights. The car sits on beautifully polished Borrani wire wheels with triple-ear knockoffs wearing a set of 205/70 VR15 Michelin tires. The dramatically sloped rear glass hatchback is a unique design feature to this model, accented by characteristically Frua side glass and sweeping body lines. The interior was sensitively restored some years ago and remains well balanced including a very nicely maintained dashboard, longitudinally pleated headliner, carpeted rear storage area, and matching floor carpeting. The leather seats are comfortable with just the right give to the seat bolstering indicating gentle use over the past 30 years of current ownership. The door panels, armrests, and center console are in very good to excellent condition. The dash and gauges are in excellent condition with well-defined dial faces, correct switches and various knobs, and a finely finished wood rim steering wheel. Raising the rear glass hatch, the rear storage compartment is finished with matching tan carpet, concealing an easily accessible Borrani (millimeter sized) wheel located under the floorboard. The engine and engine compartment are reflective of the care and detailing performed over the years with refinishing to original specifications and modest age to the various finishes. The fuel-injection unit has been removed and retained as spares with the car, while triple DCOE 151 Weber carburetors are in place with individually matched rectangular air filters. The engine displays generally correct rebuilt original components, proper hardware, factory type fasteners, and the correct satin black cam cover finish. When the car is parked, the engine drips oil on the ground which grows larger over a week or two. Although the car is operational, the shift lever requires some finesse when shifting, indicating the gearbox syncros will require attention in the future. The underside of the car is straight, and solid, though not restored. There is no evidence of structural compromise to the chassis or suspension mounting points. The exhaust system is correct and the various engine and transmission castings are in very good condition. Included with the car This Maserati comes with the original fuel-injection unit, air cleaner, other injection-based parts, a Blaupunkt radio, a spare Michelin tire and inner tube , a spare ignition tumbler and key, a Weber carburetor manual, and Maserati spare parts book. 1965 Maserati Mistral Fantasy Junction If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer. - 1993 Venturi 400 Trophy
One of 73 400 Trophy’s built by Venturi for the 1993 season, this particular example is chassis 0062, which was acquired new by American gentleman racer James Sheehan, and subsequently campaigned by him in the Venturi Trophy series in a bright yellow livery featuring an American flag covering the roof. However, 0062 would not race the full season as Mr. Sheehan defaulted on installment payments owed to Venturi for his car, seeing Venturi seize ownership of the car where it remained dormant until being acquired by the second owner, a French collector, who retained 0062 in his private collection for a significant period of time until 2010. During his custodianship, 0062 participated minimally in track day events before changing hands twice more, the second time being its acquisition by The Ascott Collection in 2013, who sold it to the fifth owner in 2015 who displayed it at the fabled French automobile show, Retromobile. Since 2015, 0062 would change ownership twice more, where most recently it raced in the 2017 Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or, Europe’s oldest historic car meet at the Dijon-Prenois circuit, before being acquired by its current American owner and moving to the United States. Today 0062 benefits greatly from its lack of on-track racing in most rounds of the Venturi Trophy series during 1993, and subsequent minimal track days, as it presents in highly preserved condition with its original bodywork, never having been crashed or wrecked - a truly rare feat for a 400 Trophy. 0062 is turn-key and waiting to effortlessly hound race tracks the world over, or participate in the highest caliber historic racing series. 1993 Venturi 400 Trophy The Cultivated Collector LLC If you are interested in the content of this listing, please contact the Dealer.
