The Healey 100 caused an immediate sensation 1952. It was designed by Donald Healey, a noted English car designer, rally driver and speed record holder, who presented the concept at the 1952 London Motor Show, where it was the undisputed star. BMC immediately agreed to produce it. The mechanics was initially derived from the Austin A90, 90 hp, afterwards improved to 110 hp (100M). Graceful but sturdy, the marque's cars were extensively raced in many sports car competitions thereafter. The company ceased building cars in 1972 when the 20-year agreement between Healey and Austin came to an end. The intention of the Iso Rivolta, in launching the "Grifo" project, was to create a car that was a middle ground between the huge American coupes and the streamlined European sports berlinette, managing to concentrate, without too many sacrifices or excesses, the comfort and reliability of one, with the elegance and performance of the other. The difficult job was entrusted, for the technical part, to Giotto Bizzarrini, a famous designer and former consultant for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, supported by Giorgetto Giugiaro (working for Bertone) for the aesthetic part. The new model was ready in a few months, as it was decided to proceed by shortening the chassis of the "GT", also designed by Bizzarrini, and was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1963, under the name "A 3 L Grifo" . The Bizzarrini 5300 GT was presented in 1965 and remained in production until 1965, assembled in 133 examples. Giotto Bizzarrini had a dream (like so many Italian engineers in the '60s of the Italian economic boom) to create a sports car capable of competing with Ferrari. At the time (it was 1964) he was still working at the Iso Rivolta dealing with the development of the Iso Grifo. Not getting the approval of his project from the ISO Rivolta, Bizzarrini decided to start his own business and to develop the car himself. The 5300 GT was born, a car that combined elegant lines inspired by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Grifo A3C with a 5.388cc Chevrolet-derived V8 engine.
