In 1966 Ferrari introduced an enlarged version of the Colombo 12-cylinder with now 4.4 litre capacity. Each cylinder had a capacity of 365 cc and this number was, in classic Ferrari tradition, used as model designation of all cars equipped with this engine. The 365 GT 2+2, produced from 1967 to 1971, was the second member of the legendary 365 family and Ferrari‘s first 4 seater with independent rear suspension. Because of its considerable size and weight the 365 GT 2+2 soon received the moniker “Queen Mary”. Our example was delivered in April 1970 through the Swiss importer SAVAF Société Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari in Geneva. First registration followed on the 9th of April 1970. Painted in “Oro Kelso” with a black leather interior and the extremely rare option of an electrically operated sunroof, this Ferrari was so popular for its first owner from Schaffhausen that he remained faithful to it until the new Millennium. In May 1976 he moved the coupé to his holiday residence in Monaco only to have it returned to Switzerland in 2001. In 2009 the Ferrari was taken over by its 2nd and so far last registered owner who added the car to his collection and only used it occasionally. In 2023 the Queen Mary was entrusted to a well-known Ferrari agency and was the subject of a great deal of work which in 2024 culminated in the coveted “Ferrari Classiche certification”. Since the factory currently takes considerable time to provide the certificate, it is not present at this point but will be delivered during 2025. This “grand” - in the truest sense of its word - turismo with only two registered owners is in very good and completely original condition. The car is matching numbers of course and has been carefully driven only 100’700 kilometres. With the most recent Veteran MOT from July 2024 this timeless classic can be registered immediately.
